well, one is that Japan is the first one to develop this style, and compared to other cartoons around the world it is most unique.

two is that it has great storylines, and fantasy anime can be really truly be magical~ transformations, magical wands and lockets, it all came from anime( see: sailor moon, card captor sakura). Stories from anime is not just a bunch of stories, some can move people who give it a chance, like it can really make you laugh or cry, some have deep stories, things like that.. and the mecha anime! I swear all this cars turning into one giant robot thing all came from japanese animation, the first few anime had a lot of things like this!(like voltesV and transformers).. so Anime has some GREAT originality points!

three is the cute factor found in many anime! it can express "cute" in a way no other cartoon style can. "kawaii!~~"^-^

four is the various things used to express emotions in anime, examples are "sweat drops" when a character is in trouble or is faced with something strange or stupid, "chibi form" meaning "little form", they turn small because of different reasons, sometimes to be cute. and more other things that can only be understood when the Japanese culture is carefuly studied, or another way is when you watch anime for a long time, you will kind of start to get everything.

five is the japanese comics called "Manga", people from the youngest age that can read to the old people, they all have their own genres to choose from. so basically anime/manga is for everyone. (Anime also have a wide selection of genres)

does anyone ever notice that cartoons now are almost all made by computer programs? it's not really "cartoons" anymore.. I am happy to say that anime sticks to the original form of animation! but also add computer animation too of course for special effects only, not every single bit of it..!

so there, that is what makes anime so awesome and so unique and that is also why a lot of people aside from the Japanese love it so much to the point of worshipping it~! it made history, and you just didn't notice it.

Cartoons and Anime differ in many ways.
Cartoons are short 15 min stories plus commercials. That have a small plot very little character development and are cheaply made. Cartoons are great for a quick laugh like Bugs bunny and stuff but its to quick and the show ends and tehn its over.
In Anime, 1 fight can last 5 episodes or more. So its like a soap opera or a reality show where you have to wait till the next week to see what happens.. The anime takes its time in telling the story. You can actually grow up with the characters. Like Dragon ball it starts with him as a kids and you grow up with him till end when he is in 50's has family. Real anime has plays with your emotions and leave each episode open at the end so you want more. For the true fans you can tell what each character is going to be like with changes in hair and eye shape.

There is more than one kind of anime. You may not get it because you haven't found the one for you. They make some for only kids, some only for adult :)
Then you have some for girls and boys.
Check the link you may find one you like:)

first and most important: i love how everything actually develops. unlike in most cartoons which have been around long enough to reach 100+ episodes, the characters in anime actually GROW. they DIE when an anvil falls on their heads. and they don't come back to life. in short, i love how REALISTIC they are.

i love that there's actually a PLOT in their stories, not endless, mindless, cat-and-mouse chases that never get resolved (again, development).

not all anime are great of course. but some are pretty awesome. i've seen only a few because i'm picky with what i watch when it comes to anime (i wanna avoid the senseless ones). but i've cried at one point with all those that i've watched. my point: i love the fact that anime has EMOTION.

and maybe people can't say why a character is cool because the guy's just too cool for words.
