You usually can't tell the age of a Chinese Water dragon until around 18mths to a year. The male has a larger crest than the female. Tricia's water dragon site has great info. Sorry I don't have the link right now...

If you Google "sex a water dragon" you'll find some interesting sites.
Probably nothing to do with keeping reptiles, though.

I think that you should be at least 21 years old. I havn't a clue how old the water dragon needs to be

if this is an Australian water dragon then it can be determined by the colour of its under belly & its throat.
if its creamy,browny,yellow its female.
if it orange or a red colour its male.

adult males are frequently larger (as much as 3 ft); whilst sexually mature they enhance larger heads, jowls and a crest on the back of the neck. Their femoral pores (considered as a row of holes interior the scales on the ventral area of the femur - leg- ) are larger than those of ladies.
