Every X-MAS,every Thks.Give it's the same.Feed the hungry, clothe the poor and don't forget about the children.PLEASE, THINK OF THE POOR CHILDREN!!It's like we give the poor free publicity once a year to make up all the other months we (as a society) generly pretend they don't exisit. Most of us certaintly don't think of the hungry or poor starving, naked w/ 2nd degree sunburns from thier lack of clothes in the middle of August.I guess only the feeling of obligation and guilt work when the whole world is telling you,you must give a little to be a good human.I certaintly hope we don't think all that canned food keeps all the needy families fed till next holiday season.I think it's sad that generaly we onlly care once a year and only because our peers are standing around watching you, watching them give too.

A lot of people do care about them all year round building houses, clothing the children and feeding the poor. Else there wouldn't be any alive come Christmas time.

During Christmas we have more ads to bother heathen like you who suddenly feel pricked in their conscience. Since you're upset it clearly worked.

I hope to see you building homes next August.

Bless you

I personally make sure to help regularly throughout the year. I do volunteer work and donate money a few times per year. I'm sure that many people do the same, although it would be nice if more people did it.

I guess Christmas is the time of the year when almost everyone who can does something to help the less fortunate. At Christmas people are reminded of how fortunate they are and reminded to help and I wonder if them having a big feast for themselves wakes up some guilt too and makes them more willing to donate something. During the year a lot of people forget about this, are too busy to think of how much better they are doing than most others and take things for granted. It's those people that need a reminder and they get it once per year.

That's what I think anyway.

Again, you are too insulated if you believe that. My husband and I are pretty representative I believe of the general lower middle class. We have specific organizations to which we give. Beyond that, we give throughout the year when we see a need and are able to help.

I could list many examples but I will just tell you of this. While living in Las Vegas, I carried small sacks with easy open cans of food ready to eat, such as pork and beans and plastic forks, also there was fresh fruit, an apple or the like, a can of juice and usually a couple of dollars. I would give them to the people hanging about the grocery stores approaching people for money. I knew most of these folks just wanted the money, but on the outside chance they were hungry, there it was.

People volunteer at soup kitchens, food banks, habitat for humanity projects, etc. all year long. It is just shown more during these seasons, because people are in a giving mood this time of year. I have had the boy scouts come doing food drives during the summer before, where you leave canned food in a bag on your door step for them to pick up. But this is not advertised as strongly during other seasons. If you feel this way give all year or volunteer at a food bank / soup kitchen, join habitat for humanity, or just do your own food drive, by having people leave food at their door to be picked up at a certain time, then donate it. Too easy, and you will feel good too.

If you donate money at Christmas, it doesn't mean it will all be spent by the charities at Christmas. Most of them use it to feed and clothe the poor at other times as well. Christmas time and other festivities are used to remind people of how lucky they are - it provides a greater contrast, and people donate more because of it.
