How would that be taking a step toward becoming a leader? I think it would be taking a step toward being disciplined for interrupting class, as is appropriate as it would be if the student stood up and said "I love Hillary."
PS. I can't believe I am answering a question asked by a person who chose the name jizzum

If they really believe it then that's fine. However if their equating pride in a president with love of country then they are still being sheepish. You don't have to be proud of this or any other president in order to love your country. I despise the presidency of George Walker Bush precisely because I do love my country and I feel we will be dealing with the damage he has caused for years to come.

It sounds like you, with the supreme arrogance of your countrymen , are assuming that only Americans will read and answer your question.
There are other countries in the world besides the good ol' USA.
I would love to stand up for my country anytime and say 'I love my country, India, and I am proud of our President, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam '

I could do that, but my people are averse of uttering hyperboles such as "loving" things. I certainly like my country, and am satisfied with my President.

I doubt it, people are afraid they will not be liked if they DON'T follow what they think is popular opinion. They don't understand that they will be respected for thinking for themselves and voicing their OWN opinions and not just what they think they are SUPPOSED to feel. That is a huge problem in our society.
The answer is a definite NO if you are talking college level though.

why would you stand up and say that? do you really need to? why do you need that attention? do you enjoy people looking at you? were you neglected as a child? do you crave attention? what does it matter - forget the world! live YOUR life the way YOU want to - stop concerning yourself with others opinions or thoughts - who really cares what they think?
and by you using the word "president" i can only assume you are in usa - so why would you be proud of that place?

I'm sure not proud of my president, so no. But hey, maybe I will tell my professors and peers I love my country. It's true!
