This animal belongs to the group xiphosura of the Phylum Arthropoda.The name of the animal is Limulus.It is also called king crab. It lives in shallow waters of the Atlantic.The body is divided into a horseshoe shaped cephalothorax, hexagonal abdomen and an elongated telson.The cephalothorax has six pairs of appendages and abdomen too has six pairs of appendages out of which five bear what is called gill books.The dorsal part of the cephalothorax has three longitudinal ridges and bears two lateral compound eyes and two simple eyes.Limulus can walk, hop and swim. The male is smaller and it mounts on the female for reproduction. The fertilization is external. The larva resembles a trilobite.
