Every so often when I am on line a message will come up saying microsofy has encountered a problem and needs to close. Also whenever I start my laptop it comes on opening the common folder and there's nothing there.

Sounds like you upgraded to IE7. Reinstall Internet explorer 7 and internet explorer 6 will take over 7 has a lot of problems yet

hi
1.)right click on my computer icon of ur desktop
2.)select properties
3.)go to advance tab
4.)click on error reporting button
5.)and now dilabe error reporting
i hope it will help u to get rid of ur problem
but u should scan ur computer for viruses , spyware and then keep ur computer away from dust
because it can happen due to dust in RAM

Run a virus scan.
If it's clean of infection try this

i guess virus fed up your pc
test it with norton and panda
it ll fix for malware,spyware,adware ....
so tat it ll be fixed
