Yes, according to the Bible, and/or in any holy books. It's a rule like the law that you are going to be punished if you commit murder or theft etc. I believe the rules in the bible or in any other religion's holy teachings are for the mankind. To keep the balance everybody must have the same rules to follow and respect. (Just imagine a world without rules of discipline, I bet nobody could live with it.) I believe we also must be conscious of the rewards that we would have if we follow the rules and also the chances that we have if we happen to commit it to be forgiven. Man are weak, let's just face the fact. But we are also made very intelligent. We could always find a way out. Let's seek and we will find. Try again the Bible and I'm sure you could find an answer that you are looking for.

I hope you can click on the links.
Fornication: Sex where at least one of the participants is not married; sex outside of marriage (Genesis 34:1-7; Deuteronomy 22:13-28; 2 Samuel 13:2-22; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 2 Corinthians 12:21, Galatians 5:19; Hebrews 13:4; Colossians 3:5; 1 Corinthians 7:2,8-9)
These are passages on the Bible which prohibit fornication, which is sex outside of marriage.

Your choices should be yours and yours alone. Bible thumping and preaching abstinence and then being judgmental are prevalent in the responses you've received on here.
Take note: Most the scriptures quoted in the peoples responses are all taken from the OLD testament. In the days of the OLD testament--people were living by the mosaic law.
You and only you can decide what you want to do with your life and with your sexuality. You are given the choices of being abstinent or being like a bee pollinating many flowers. You make those choices

No it's not, I'm a born-again Christian and I've read the bible and researched on the net about this and there's no proof in the bible that it is. Sexual immorailty does not mean fornication as most Christian's believe, rather the Greek word used is "porneia" which in the bible times meant prostitution idoltary, not fornication. Here are some sites to prove my point:

Yes and No. Sorry that's the bible for you... so confused on issues of right and wrong.
Did you know the bible supports slavery... owning other humans.
Why in the world would a thinking person give a hoot as to what the bible says?

You know what! I'm sorry if you're religious, but there are a lot of things in the Bible that I don't understand, this being one of them. Now, I know that Christians believe pre-marital sex is wrong, but I don't know where it states it in the Bible exactly.
What I would like to know if WHY it's wrong?

yes, the reason for this is most likely because marraige, which is a sacred sacrament, is generally the safest place to have sex and raise children. of course, you could use a condom, but fyi, most churches believe that artificial birth control is taking away the reason for intercourse and makes it just for pleasure. however i dont think birth control is mentioned in the bible.

Yes, it is...
And in response to the accusation that this is a directive from the old testament, that's just plain wrong. The new testament, and Paul in particular speak about sexual sins a great deal.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 tells us...
18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
And 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 says...
3It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control his own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;
Next, these verses spell out very clearly that sex is only applicable to marriage...
1 Corinthians 7:1-2
Now about the questions you asked in your letter. Yes, it is good to live a celibate life. But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.
1 Corinthians 7:8-9
Now I say to those who aren't married and to widows it's better to stay unmarried, just as I am. But if they can't control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It's better to marry than to burn with lust.
so the Bible, in the new testament tells us that we should flee from sexual immorality. It then tells us that if we can't control our lustful desires we should marry so that the won't live in sin.
1 Corinthians 7 continues saying...
3The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer.
So, in conclusion, we are to flee sexual immorality, but if we can't control ourselves and resist the temptation, then we should marry. once we are married, its our duty to fulfill the needs of our spouse.
it doesn't get much clearer than that. the only time sex is permissable in the Bible is in marriage. And all that's from the new testament.
