In general radio people need more of an ego than most people have and they need to be able to talk pretty much off the cuff.
Depending on music format, the dj should be very knowledgeable about artists, writers, etc.
Most good dj's I've known have been a little hyperactive. Most of us in radio have been dj's at one time or another. Those of us, like me, who wanted to do more, graduated into other specialties like news, advertising, etc.
