I don't THINK it's degrading to women. I KNOW it's degrading to women.
From the perspective of most rap songs, women are nothing more than warm, tight, *** receptacles with several conveniently placed holes, a pair of titties, and an ***. Bitches and hoes.
The really sad part is that an entire generation of young black men are growing up thinking that it's ok to treat women like objects.

Nonsense... RAP is a form of more or less musical expression that, in and of itself, has no relationship to women (or anything else). The only rap that is degrading to women is... A rap that is degrading to women. A rap about the size of a guy's rims on his Escalade has NOTHING to do with women and doesn't degrade them in any way. Just like any other genre: jazz, pop, C&W, rock, polka... If the content of the work is degrading to women then that piece will be a piece that degrades women. If the content is about cars, diamond-encrusted teeth, fishing, whatever... How does that degrade women? There's a bunch of rap tunes that place women on pedestals! They might be in the minority, but... A genre of expression cannot be labeled outright as "degrading to women". That's ridiculous... (Oh... And I'm no big fan of the genre; I think most rappers are marginally talented on a good day, and couldn't write a real SONG if their lives depended on it but, still... Let's keep it real.)
I could listen to violent and/or misogynistic music (of any type) all day long and it's not going to compel me to commit suicide, crime, or call someone "b*tch", "ho", or "n*gga". I don't like it, I don't do it. Simple as that... Artists/entertainers may have some measured influence on society but, more to the point, they REPRESENT society.
As with virtually ALL music, the industry is consumer driven. This stuff is being supported by MILLIONS of consumers. If enough people would simply boycott the products that advertise on networks that air the offensive material that stuff would be off the air TOMORROW! Period.

It would be ignorant to place such a stereo-typical statement to ALL rap music. Rap just like any genre of music is just an artistic outlet of their life's perspectives. Some perspectives are degrading, however some rap artist specifically put out music to respect women, and life in general. Truthfully, when I heard your question it gave me the impression that you don’t listen to rap music, at all… hence this question which was out of pure prejudice.
There are many who aren't perceived as "degrading to women" ... lets see..
Common
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Nasir Jones
A Tribe Called Quest
The Roots
Dela Soul
Diggable Planets
Eve,
Bahamadia,
Salt N Peppa,
MC Lyte,
Lauren Hill
Beastie Boys
Fort Minor
Gymclassheros
Public Enemy
Gil Scott Heron
And those are just off the top of my head! I would suggest listening to the music.. not necessarily the pop-rap that you hear on the radio.

I think some rap is very degrading to women, far to graphic and violent. But no one should judge an entire art form based on the limitations of some of the artists that perform it.

Oh me, definitely. But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying ALL rap songs do, but yes, rap is generally much more degrading to women than other types of music.

Secular/mainstream rap is generally degrading to women. Not all rap is though!
Funny that most rappers are married with kids!
Funny that some women are desperate to be in those videos!
Funny that some women want to be with those rappers!
Funny that some female rappers degrade women with their music! Ha!

I cannot stand rap. You're right I'm POSITIVE it degrades women. It portrays women as some object of lust for men and it pretty much points out the idea that women are only for sex.
