I presume you're in the UK, in which case you won't hear from the midwife until you are 12 weeks gone. This is standard practice within the UK unless you develop problems, you have a medical condition which requires careful monitoring or you are over 35, in which case you will be offered a nuchal transluency scan at 12 weeks. Many parts of the UK do not offer free scans at 12 weeks, unless you are considered at high risk (see list above), so you may want to pay for one privately. Your GP's office can recommend good scanning centres in your local area.
It can be very disconcerting to realise that the UK medical profession just isn't interested in you until you get beyond the first trimester. I know I was shocked, but luckily my sister in law is a midwife and was able to reassure me that this was normal - the main reason being the risk of miscarriage does not drop until the 12th week and there isn't much that the medical profession can do for you in the first trimester.
Congratulations and good luck with the pregnancy and birth

Yes, pretty much. The community midwife usually contacts pregnant women to "book" them (find out what sort of birth they want and plan antenatal care) between 8 and 12 weeks. Antenatal appointments really kick in from 12 weeks, as it's only that this point that the midwife will be able to feel the uterus and try to listen to the baby's heartbeat (before this, the uterus is still small enough to be tucked within the pelvis).
If you're worried about anything and would like to have a chat with your midwife, you could ask your GP to contact her and ask her to get in touch sooner.

Don't worry about this a am also nine weeks pregnant the don't scan you until 12 weeks which would be your first booking appointment the reason being in your first scan they do measurement's on your growing baby like was your due date will be and the do a test called a cubs test were they measure the neck to check for down syndrome. Before 12 weeks they cannot carry out this test because the baby is not developed enough before 12 weeks. Take a magazine with you the waiting time can be a while i know my first pregnancy i was sitting there for ages. It will be worth the wait to see your baby on the screen its magical good luck x

I've had 3 children and with each one my first appointment with the dr/midwife was @ 12 weeks, so this is not unusual. If you feel as if you are being "put off" let the clinic know this. If you have specific concerns about you're pregnancy, now is the time to voice your concerns! Until you see the midwife, be sure to take your pre-natal vitamins every day.
p.s. I had 2 delivered by a board certified physician and one delivered by a nurse midwife -- the midwife delivery was the BEST BY FAR!!! She was much more in tune with the natural progression of my delivery and far less inclined to intervene with drugs and an episiotome (spelling?). DO NOT have one of those! I had HUGE babies, but healed MUCH faster without an episiotome!
Good luck! God bless!

I was worried that i hadn't seeen my midwife yet, i am 3 months pregnant. I have just had a call from a midwife as i too was concerned, she informed me that you get seen at 12 weeks and 20 weeks at the hospital if everything is ok they discharge you and then you get seen by your midwife at 28 weeks, and every 2 weeks after that. So no you won't be seeing your midwife for a while yet, they kind of leave you to it these day's if all your scan's are ok. Good luck anyway!

Don't wait for the midwife to contact you. Phone messages get lost all the time. Call the midwife's office directly and make an appointment.
By the way, my first son was delivered by an obgyn, and my second was delivered by midwife. If I could do it all over again, I would have had my midwife deliver both of them. They are so much more natural...no stirrups, no epesiotomy (which I questioned because I already had one with my first, but I healed much quicker with the second. I tore a bit, but three stitches are much easier to deal with than an inch of scarring.) and so much more personable. It's a good choice ;)

i live in west Yorkshire and the norm for around where i live is that you have your first booking in appointment between 10 and 15 weeks but i was booked in at 8 weeks due to a previous miscarriage so they wanted to put my mind at ease. but don't worry if you have a dating scan before you see your midwife. but if you are worried call your GP office and ask them about your appointment
good luck and all the best
