I can tell you that regardless of your religious orientation or a lack of one, no one especially those working at the store want to work on christmas or new years or...if you can get a day off of work, preferably paid, we all want it and many of us need it (and deserve it)
I am willing to bet that being open on christmas would not bring in the customers for most businesses as many are spending it at home with the family (again regardless of religious leanings or lack of one-hey agnostics and atheists enjoy a day off from work just as much as anyone) so, in a nutshell, no (although some venues, like the movies I think should be), just in case we need to flee from our families, hee hee on said holidays...

Good question! Do the worker bees get paid enough to feel worthwhile? Do the non x-mas get paid for having to take a day off? Can the consumer consume less for a day? Christmas is not a suprise holiday. It happens on the same day every year. Can the consumers buy their nog and loaves on the eve? C'mon, people! We get to happily work(or study) and there is a time to rest. 7-11 folks are great. Tip them fools for being there when you run out of beer. It would be cool if you weren't so obvious, jethro!

Why not? Some people need the money and want to work (and might be home alone if they weren't working, sad thought). Other people can't plan ahead, and have something that they absolutely need on Christmas Day. Can you imagine running out of diapers or baby formula on Christmas Day? What a disaster if there were no stores open!

And, some people don't celebrate Christmas.

I don't think shops should be *forced* to open on Christmas Day. I think it should be a reasoned decision by the owner, and take into account the employees' feelings. But, if you open a shop on Christmas Day, someone will pop by.

absolutely not. And I will not shop at any store on christmas day. I will not support that. They should allow the workers time off to spend with thier families. I dont care what religious background you come from, you shouldnt have to work. Dont shop that day so next year they will close.

Many small businesses are open on Christmas day. Free enterprise is a wonderful thing. Being open on Christmas shouldn't be forced upon all businesses.

I doubt many would use the shop on Christmas Day but they should be allowed to open if they wish (and they are prepared to work!)

No way. Staff are entitled to their holiday the same as the rest of us, people have more than enough time to get everything in for xmas without going to the shops on xmas day.

Never! There should be nothing allowed to open except for the most essential services like police, fire and ambulance and utilities and other services. No stores - of any kind - should be open. Let everyone have the day with their families!

Only the necessary ones.People even if they do not believe should take a day off just in courtesy of the ones who do.Same goes for all the others day of religious celebration or mourning. Each religion should have their own day and everyone should allow it,surely we are not all that consumed with the dollar.

Absolutely not. Its about the only time families and friends can rightfully spend time together without hinderance. Other times you have to book time off or catch broken times during weekends. When everything is shut and there is nowhere else to go, you appreciate the captive audience of your loved ones - at least for one full day.
