Don't fear this shadow spirit. They come into our lives just as living animals come into our lives.... to communicate something to us.
If this animal was more of a dog. The dog reminds us to evaluate our loyalty.
Dogs were and are kept by almost every culture of the world. Dog is loyal, protective, territorial and familial. Dog warns of danger, guide in tight spaces, track food, warm a cold night. Dog guards the home, hell's gates, secrets, treasures and children. Dog is the loving gentleness of best friends.
If Dog comes into your life, you are reminded to examine your attitude towards serving others. There is almost nothing which can break a Dog's loyalty. Despite hardships, and even abusive treatment, Dog will be there for you, as if He understands that you are not perfect and will have your bad moments, yet accepts them and is there only to serve you and be your friend. Can you say the same of yourself? It is possible to break Dog's spirit, but the loyalty does not break until the spirit is gone. Even when bred into fierceness, the fierceness was the trait the owner wanted, and Dog took that trait into its genetic memory to please its owner. How are you doing with peer pressure?
Dog asks you to evaluate your goals, loyalties and friendships. Is the present company you keep loyal and supportive, or are your goals compromised for peer approval? Are you convincing yourself that you don't deserve loyalty from others? Have you done anything to earn such disloyalty? Are any of your actions disloyal or demeaning to others? How much fear of disapproval is there in your thinking? Do you put others down to lift yourself up?
Dog may be telling you it is time to break away from the pack with which you are running, and to find a pack more suitable to loyalties, friendship and service to others.
If you think it was more of a wolf, then you should follow the advice of the wolf, the teacher.
Wolf is associated with the Dog Star, Sirius. Many Native American legends refer to Sirius as the original home of our teachers in ancient times. The ancient Egyptians believed Sirius was the home of the gods. How is it that such significant legends arose around the same star of so many stars in the sky? Why is so much significance tied to this star by cultures on opposite sides of the world? Why do both groups associate Sirius with the Dog? How much truth is in the legends, myths and lore that have been handed down from before history?
Wolf is the teacher. When Wolf goes out into the world, She gathers knowledge and experience. Upon returning to the den, Wolf teaches the pack, sharing Her experiences. Wolf seeks new ways, Wolf is the Pathfinder.
Like Dog, Wolf is loyal, protective and familial. Yet Wolf displays individualism, as indicated by Her willingness to set off alone and seek the unknown, then to return with the knowledge.
Wolf's power ally is the Moon. The Moon symbolizes psychic energy and the unconscious where secrets of knowledge and wisdom lie. Baying at the Moon shows Wolf's drive to find the secrets hidden in the unconscious. Wolf summons the teacher in all of us, to make us aware of the Great Mystery and life, and help us to teach others.
If Wolf walks into your life, you may be ready to awaken and learn about the Mysteries. You may also be ready to teach the lessons to others. There may also be the hint that you should go off alone for awhile and, like Wolf, learn of "other knowledge", which you can bring back and share for the benefit of many. Many say your teacher will appear when you have asked AND when you are ready. If Wolf appears, you have indeed been graced by the presence of the greatest of teachers.
Wolf may bring you lessons for yourself or for others. Before deciding it is for someone else, ensure that you have looked within yourself and determined that it is absolutely not for you. Often you will be surprised that lessons apparently for others do, or will soon, carry significance for you.
Wolf's lesson for you may be that you should eliminate fear. The lesson will do you little good, if you are too afraid to implement the teachings. Look about you at the time Wolf appears, and determine what it is you fear... That is what Wolf is reminding you to work on.
Ask this spirit guide why it is here and really open yourself to hear and feel what it is trying to tell you. You may get an answer in the occurences of daily life, the appearance of more totem animals or even possibly in your dreams.

Even shadow spirits follow the path of instinct.
Some things to consider: when you first encountered the being, it ran. Really dangerous animals don't run, they charge because they have the instinctual experience to know that most things are afraid of it.
Most likely it's a shadow/ghost dog or wolf. What happened was, because you 'saw' it, its kinda curious about you and followed you, in much the same way a stray dog might follow you home.
Alot depends upon how you respond to it. If it is a shadow or ghost of an animal, perhaps it is feeling pretty lost and is looking for companionship, especially if it can find no one of its kind. Humans are, essentially, animals too. And the thing with shadow pets is that they make good guardians, since they are rarely seen, but people who intend to do harm suddenly get a 'bad' feeling and change their minds without ever knowing why.
The call is up to you. But even normal dogs and cats have been known to travel hundreds or thousands of miles looking for their owner. Maybe it selected you.

One day this world will wake up to the fact that there are strange things in this world that exist next door to us.............. It could have been anything from the paranormal to the normal. Also your chasing after some un-known creature was not one the smartest things that you can do lol. You should be thankful that you were able to survive what ever is was you saw....... My question to you did you smell any strange odors. Did your flashlights reflected off of whatever you saw or did your flashlight lights pass thru it and that is why you were not able to see any features...Was it covered by hairs or was its skin bare. Did it eyes glow from the reflection of the light. or was it eyes glowing when you first saw it.......... Could you please share that info with me at:marks4460@mypacks.net.. I am looking forward to hearing from you... Also it is a smart thing to be afraid of somethings and just get out of that area...................................
