A knife-->cut coconuts and food up with or make into a spear for fishing.
a sharpener-->keep the knife and machete sharp.
a roll of saran wrap-->dig a hole in the sane, and put a rock over it, with a cup under the saran wrap and rock, and the sun will suck the moisture from the sand and it will drip into the cup and give you enough to survive on.
machete-->to break open coconuts or hack into the forest on the island or ward off animals.
Food would be a great plus
You didnt mention a boat??? --> It would be my first choice!

I would have a mirror - multi talented you see - they can signal to aircraft flying over, they can start fires and they can let you see how attractive you are!! also you could break the mirror therefore having a sharp end for cutting with too!!! brilliant!!!
I did like one persons answer though - a mobile phone - genius!!! but knowing my bloody mobile ohone provider I would have no signal anyhow so therefore USELESS!!!

A pen knife, one of those ones with all the gadgets on them. I was going to say flare, but I would be better off with something that would sort my immediate problems out. Who knows, it might help me to build a raft, or help create a flag/sign that I could put somewhere high for passing aircraft.

Solar powered reverse osmosis water purifier with manual and repair parts including tools. At the very least, I'd have drinking water.

First a satellite phone that would unstrand me. If that were not possible, a large supply of matches. If magic is allowed, a genie in a lamp that will give endless wishes (except, of course, rescue. That would nullify your question!).
