On the Red Funnel jet boats (for foot passengers) it's about 25 mins.

The ferry one you can take cars on takes about an hour.

It depends on where abouts on the Island you wan't to get to.

If your taking a car it will be slower, but if you are on foot, then you may consider starting off from a different point.

Portsmouth to Ryde, is a route covered by Whyte Link's 'Fast Cat' ferries, Its a big yellow catamaran, foot passengers only, and takes about 18 minutes to cross, but allow 25 for strong weather. it costs £16.40 for a return ticket.

Portsmouth to Fishbourne White link car ferry cost 13.40 for a foot passenger, and about £50 for a car, they take 40 minutes to cross.

Southsea to Ryde Hovercraft takes just 10 minutes and cost £10 for a return same day ticket.

Lymington to Yarmouth white link (IOW) ferry is another short route, takes about 30 minutes, and costs 13.40 for a return ticket, car is about the same as the Fishbourne route.

Red funnel operate the Southampton to Cowes (west, this is a catamarn, and takes about 25 minutes, as does the hydrofiol which is operated by the same company and takes the same route.

Southampton to East Coes is the main car ferry, it is operated by Red Funnel, and takes an hour.

It takes about 45 minutes on the car ferry. But it depends what day you go on and how busy it is. It takes ages on a Saturday when it's really busy because it takes time getting all the people and cars on and off the boat.

by car ferry it took us 30/40mins.... NOT an Hour!
