Our city, one of the most ethnically diverse in the world, is made up of neighborhoods unique to the local culture. So the most interesting thing about Toronto is FREE. Walk through our neighborhoods, see the stores, restaurants, listen to the languages - it's amazing. There are some suggested, reasonably-priced eating places on my Toronto space, which will take you into some of our neighborhoods: http://spaces.msn.com/members/TheTravelzine-TorontoSc/
Happy holidays!

A lot of locations around the city have less expensive, or even free nights. The AGO (art gallery) is free Wednesdays after 4:30 and the ROM (museum) is only $5.00 Friday nights.
Ice skating at Nathan Philips square is free and it's really close to the Music Music studio, which often have fun things for the public.
If you're going to be on Yonge, south of Bloor there are lots of little galleries to explore for free during the day, but they usually close after dinner.
Other than that, just the little speciality corners always offer cool events like China Town, Greek Village, Kennsington Market, St.Lawrence Market and Little Italy.

St. Lawrence Market, Kensington Market, Chinatown, Toronto Islands (for peace and quiet and an amazing view of the city), make sure you get on a streetcar (not too many cities have them).

Go up the CN Tower at night and see if you can spot Buffalo. Daytime is OK too. Go check out the famous stores-Honest Ed's, Sam's, etc. Go for a skate at Nathan Phillips square. Go visit the Stanley Cup at the hockey hall of fame.
