You might want to try othro tri cyclen lo. I know I was on othro tri cyclen lo for 1 1/2 years and it helped control my moods swings as well as my period. However there are other options available for use as birth control such as the depo which is good for 3 months and you won't experience a period (perhaps light bleeding); however, the first week or so after the shot you might experience a high level of hormones unitl your body get use to it..other than that you will be fine.

There is also the patch a new implant that got approved in the US for use that has been used overseas in other countries.

I'm on birth control because of polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is basically just a hormone imbalance. I hadn't gotten my period in a year (I wasn't and am still not sexually active), so we went to the doctor. She prescribed me something that gave me a period, but it didn't come back. So about six months after that, we went to a specialist, who put me on birth control. I wasn't actually having any of the weird effects of PCOS besides the lack of periods--it often leads to facial hair or deep voices in girls--but I think she just wanted to see if it would help anyway. And sure enough, at the end of the month, I got my period, and have regularly since I've been on it--plus my hormone levels are where they should be now. My periods have been a lot better while I've been on it too. I never got terrible symptoms, and definitely nothing as bad as yours, but I still usually got cramps. However, now on birth control, the most I'll get is like, an hour of light cramps during my entire period. I don't think I've had any side effects of birth control. Oh, except my acne's gotten better, which could definitely be because of the birth control. I wouldn't worry about it; your doctor will prescribe you the best birth control for your body and will take you off it if something comes up. However, I don't think anything will.

use birth control that doesn't contain hormones if you don't want to get pregnant, ie- condoms, diaphram, etc

if you want to remain on birth control, talk to your gyn about pills that have low estrogen. Also too, you can try Depo-Provera. Its a shot that you take every 3mos and contains NO ESTROGEN. Alot of women say that it has caused them to have lighter/no periods.

Make sure you talk to your gyn about what is going on and then the both of you can decide what is best for you.
