Ignore them. Just pretend they don't exist. Don't sink to their level.

Look at it from the point of view that if they're talking about you, they're leaving someone else alone ;0)

Oh dear, its just that what you said "Rumours", they are like a bad smell, it will eventually go away. I know it is hurtful when people do this, but why are you worrying about these people, they are well below you, I am sure you have plenty of friends that can see a rumour for what it is. Get on with your life and ignore the person and the rumours. Usually people start rumours because they have nothing better to do with their time or they are looking for attention themselves, trying to be the big man, so to speak, and usually people know about people like this, and take what they say, with a grain of salt. If you allow it to worry you, then they have succeeded in upsetting you, and they have won, so dont let them win, and the only person they will hurt is themselves.
Good Luck

My pastor just talked about this last night! :-)

He said that he at one time actually hated a guy who was talking about him and spreading rumors. He said that for three months he prayed to God that he would take away the hate that he felt for this person. It did take three months, but the next time he saw the spiteful person, he walked up to him, smiled at him, shook his hand, told him it was good to see him again and that he loved him and hoped his life was going well. The guy did a complete turn around, stopped talking badly about my pastor and even commented on how great of a man he was.

So maybe, instead of trying to get back at him, try proving that you are the better man, that what he says about you is not going to have an ill effect on you. That you will continue to be kind and loving person no matter what.

:-)

My best advice is (although this had been said many times before) to be the better person. Don't waste time plotting revenge on the idiot who spread worthless rumors about you. Instead, focus on the postivite things in your life. Rise above it - it will eventually go away.

confront the person in front of others who got influenced by the rumour, be calm, and ask him reasons for doing so, and see that everyone comes to know the truth

DON'T DO IT. If you believe in karma, then let karma take care of getting back at that person. But if you don't believe in karma just roll with the punches or confront the person professionally and tell him or her that this isn't right and call it a truce.

Face to Face man and be ready to do battle. Reverse the game on that person. Do not stoop to rumors try scaring the crap out of them. Intimidation works wonders. You have to make them believe your words.

Why do you need to get back at the person. The mouth belongs to others and just let them say whatever they like
