My boys (11, 9) lost everything they own to a house fire in early October intentionally set by their father (allegedly). Therefore, Insurance is dragging their feet to cover anything. I am completely broke from replacing everything (slowly) and paying for a furnished apt. (almost 2 grand/mo). Now Christmas is days away and I have $50 in my acct. Not even a tree yet. What do I do??? My boys were "gamers" they had handhelds and consoles. Computers etc. First of all don't want to replace their "old" things for christmas, shouldnt it be new and exciting? Also, these boys have been incredible and amazing through all of this...the fire, the separation from their dad, move to a new town and new school etc, all in about 3 months time. They deserve something great!! Where should I turn?

What a great mom you are ...thinking of your children .. boys are tough ... and remember Christmas is not just about presents but also giving
It sounds like they are smart kids .. tell them whats going on and that you want to have an inventive Christmas for the three of you
Call your local churches .. you should be able to get some sort of help at least for the Children.
On Christmas eve you could go looking for a homeless tree ( one the lots have not sold ) if you ask the lot owner and let him know what happened I bet he would give you one
Then on Christmas day .. take 30 of that 50 dollars out of the bank and each of you decide how your going to make Christmas special ...maybe window shop with them and on Christmas day give them IOUs for what they want AFTER Christmas then a walk in the park and hot dogs after ?
Be creative girl .. you can do this and make it a Christmas they will always remember

All the best to you and the boys

( careful with this kids REALLY hold you to those IOU's )

Get a cheap toss camera (With flash/ I made that mistake once). Then plan to take the boys to the activities of your city. Take pictures of them Ice skating, looking at department store Xmas displays, A ride on the Holli day train. Get a library card and use is to take the boys to the Science Museum where there is lots of fun, learn and play Like Laser Tag and riding on a simulated rocket. Get Ice cream at the old fashioned ice cream shop but bring your own lunch. This is your chance to make this one the time of their lives because it's a "family Vacation" of Fun with mom. Lot's of these activities are FREE or nominal. The alternative is the create a party at home with what's your favorate, who's your favorate. Been mentoring kids for a long time. This your time to get creative. There is plenty more. Feel free to respond back if you like.

I had to do similar with my daughter. She's got pictures of created memories when her absent dad reluctantly gave her a car on her birthday then threatened to tow is away on Christmas day. I decided that we would have a party in the car. Took pictures of her posing all over the car. In the drivers seat, across the seats, waving out of window, popped the trunk and took with her hands in the air and a big smile. Hour later when we looked out of the window and watched it towed she didn't care anymore. Cause she had had her fun and got it on film.

Contact your local Salvation Army and see if it is possible to get them "Toys for Tots". Call a few churches and explain what has happened and see if they can provide you with any assistance. It's probably to late to get them anything major for Christmas, but you can still do a few things for fifty dollars. There are paints and magnets, check out the arts and crafts section at Wal-Mart. My kids love the beads that you melt onto stars and circles with an iron and they are fairly inexpensive. Call the local schools. Especially your children's school. My son's school teachers collect money every year for unfortunate students and actually take them shopping themselves. There are people who are willing and wanting to help you, you just have to look for them. :-) God Bless! Merry Christmas. And remember, you have each other.

Buy them the new Twisted Sister CD "Twisted Christmas", it's really a good CD and I listen to Country music but it's real good, not like you would think.
