Since Wasim Jaffar has failed to perform in both the innings of
1st Test, I strongly feel that Gautam Gambhir should be given a chance in the 2nd Test.

Yes, he should be selected. Jaffer has failed regularly and consistently. Therefore, he should be replaced by Gambhir. However, it would all depend on 2 days practice match that Inida will play before the 2nd test match. Whoever succeeds, will be playing in the 2 nd test match.

It hardly matters.

Be it gambhir or jaffer, they are not gonna score more than 15-20 runs.

on a serious note,
Vengsarkar HAS said that the opening slot is up for grabs, so both gambhir and jaffer have equal chances

No. Irfan Pathan will replace Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer should voluntarily get out of the team and help Mumbai in Ranji tournament. But thats another thing.
Chappell might be inclined to push Pathan to open the innings but it will be better that Dravid and Sehwag open the innings.

Why not import an opener from Australia, like we have done for the Coach. Ask Guru Ghantaal (I mean Greg Chappell) who is available or they could get Damien Martyn who's retired already.

Ya there is chances..But my choice is to pick up D.Karthik in and Dhoni out. Now u got a keeper+batsman for opening & Pathan should be back to the team.(Dhoni should be preserved for the world cup)..

May not be, because Sehwag is firmly in place, inspite of repeated failures.
