Klink a friend of the family, said of the Monacle it is the way that I see the Klink to be in real life.

You miss the most important aspect of the monacle. It's chief use was to fall out of his eye when he wanted to punch up the " surprised" look. Nice comic bit.

Monocles were popular pieces of eyewear for middle-aged men right through the nineteen forties. It is perhaps the fact it was associated with Prussian Generals that pushed them out of fad.
