It happens sometimes... There is absolutely nothing running from it, but it still can't be removed. I've checked the Task Manager, and all the processes running are the normal ones. And if anyone insists it's a virus/worm/trojan/etc, then it's something AVG Anti-virus 7.5 and AVG Anti-spyware 7.5 (Free) can't detect... It's a Samsung, BTW, and it's happened on various computers...

Hi!

If you are using Win XP then.. the drive is ALWAYS in use, since it creates a hidden System Restore folder on ALL drives (and partitions). Try disabling SR on ALL partitions on the drive and also Recycle Bin.

Good luck!

It's not always anyting you can see. The OS can make use or lock the drive in place at any time and usually it will give you a warning before removing a hot-swappable USB or Firewire HD. On a Mac it's a simpler process to unmount the drive to make it safe for detachment, but in Windows it still needs to be done. Sometimes a program that accessed a file on the HD can indicate that it's locked to the OS when it shouldn't be. It's best to just shut down the machine to be really safe or just take the chance and deal with the warning that pops up.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

Do one thing, on right hand side corner, where time is shown, there will b one object showing an external hard drive installed, just double click that icon then just press stop tab in window that appears, but if it shows 2-3 items just select ur harddrive option n then press stop , it will definately stop. because if u directly try to stop it will try to stop all USB Connection n thats why it is showing that it is in use, so next time before pressing stop tab, just select your device n then do it. it will work definately. bye dude.
