Explosives were used to blow out the floors joists, namely Thermite. Thermite is a chemical reaction that causes metal to melt. It takes a very high temperature to ignite Thermite in the neighborhood of 2800 degrees and higher. Charges are used to start the Thermite and the reaction is a huge explosion . These explosions were used at the bottom floor and each floor descending to drop each tower into it's own footprint. Only a controlled Implosion is capable of foot printing a building. It is done by wiring up each floor separately, using cutter charges.

The September 11, 2001 attacks (often referred to as 9/11—pronounced "nine eleven") consisted of a series of coordinated terrorist[1] suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on the United States on September 11, 2001. The victims were predominantly civilians.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists[2] affiliated with al-Qaeda[3] hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. The hijackers crashed two of the airliners (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (1 WTC and 2 WTC), resulting in the collapse of both buildings soon afterward. A third airliner (American Airlines Flight 77) was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. In addition to the 19 hijackers, 2,973 people died; another 24 are missing and presumed dead.

Gravity and the fact that two 747 jets crashed into them. To all those who believe it was a demo job, I have three words...Laws of Motion. The towers falling was essentially a Domino Effect, I forget what floors where directly hit, but the floors above the impact were weakened and subsequently fell, causing the floor underneath it to fall, then the one under that, and under that, until there's nothing left. This is pretty basic science here, there doesn't have to be a grand conspiracy behind every tragic event.

Um, yeah, the building's were demo'ed. Sure. Keep believing that so the conspiracy theorists can make more money off you. The 9/11 "Truthists" put so much stock in the idea that the incident was planned in such a way that Bush's crusading hordes would be given justification to pillage the Middle East. Um, again, keep believing that so the conspiracy theorists can make more money off you. Iraq, Iran, North Korea, etc. WERE ALREADY ON THE MILITARY HITLISTS AS THEY WERE. 9/11 occuring did give Bush the reason to finally bang some heads and make a run on Iraq, but he certainly didn't plan it (come on, look how Iraq and Afghanistan are being handled, you think Jee Dubya could handle that kind of sophistication of conspiracy? He's a hick).
Damn loonies thinking the government planned all that....

Terrorists caused the WTC to fall. Some people like to blame the US for everything, but regardless of whatever form of diplomacy the US used with the Taliban or whomever, terrorists planned and executed the destruction of the World Trade Center.

Two planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the towers. The structure of the towers was not strong enough to withhold the impact of the planes, which resulted in their fall.

The impact of the jets shook a great deal of the insulation off the steel frame. Burning jet fuel caused the steel frame, now lacking insulation, to begin to bend...

At this point the simple laws of physics went into effect - the upper levels weighed more than the overheated steel frame could sustain... metal loses strength when heated...

So there came a point where the mass of floors above the point of impact exceeded the capacity of the burning levels (jet fuel burns hot...) steel frame to sustain it... and then the towers fell...

Basically after the planes crashed in the heat was so intense that the steel frame began to buckle and was no longer able to support its own weight.

I was like everybody else horrified and surprised when they fell, but I think I understand how the impact and the resulting fire had weakened the structure to such an extent that failure was inevitable.
