I think people in the US see, and realize amazing things can be accomplished by an IDEA. Everyone sees a Bill Gates, or a Paul Allen that didn't come from big money families and think " I can do that too". So, they have that motivation that they too can do it. Some other countries in the world may not have that initial mind set, due to the environment that their government drills into them. On top of that we have a wide range of social/economic classes in the US. Some other countries have two classes filthy rich, and dirt poor.

Yes, it is a standard of living. You see, by age 18, you are expected to have a High School Diploma. This is a little piece of paper that says you have basic skills needed to learn more advanced one later on -or- acquire an entry level job. If you do not have this paper, what kind of impression does that give the potential employer?

I feel that some people see social conformity as a religion. They feel lost and need guidance or guidelines in their lives. By having society map out their lives for them, they feel more secure because they know what they should be doing and when. I myself am a nonconformist, maybe because I believe the society we live in is so skewed. But that's just me.

Follow your own rules as long as it does not harm others I say. None of this "rules of society" thing. I am used to a traditional society, so much changes, that people get real opinionated these days about what is social acceptable and what is not. Just relax, step back, like the other dude said, go to your own beat.

I don't know which country you are talking about. I assume the U.S.A. Although I am not from there, I think that people are inheritly lazy and risk-avoiders. So it is less effort to socialize with your own group, be it race or social standing or religion/value based rather than getting challenged into knowing something different.

If we knew everything and why we are really on this planet, we may not be able to comprehend it. Just live and accept the rules of society however do what you want to do as long as it doesn't effect anyone then no worries. Who cares what people think? If you worry all the time nothing will get done. The beer tastes just as good rather you worry or not so just enjoy life.

It all goes back to fear of rejection. Most everyone wants to belong to a group. This to them says hey I am normal, others accept and understand me and it makes them feel good. Remember I said most.
