Both set out to change the world they lived in, both were heroes in their own right. Sad thing is that most Americans know plenty about Dr. King, simply because he was chosen to be an accepted topic in the biased history books we learned from in the past. Malcolm X was treated with the same disdain he showed for corrpution and disloyalty. Since his beliefs were so blatantly honest and not easily overturned, he did not receive the same general support from the majority of White America. Both were right for doing what they did. Both were killed for doing too much of the right thing.

At first, Malcolm X was an extreme, strict Black Muslim. But he changed his religious philosophies after his trip to Mecca for hajj. There he said he saw Muslims of all colors, races, and from all over the world. He came back, changed his tone in his sermons and speeches to more of a conciliatory way. He was killed before the 2nd Ali-Liston fight, and since Ali was a close disciple of X there was some fear that some of Elijah Muhammad's followers would come after him. (Ali's first Muslim name was Ali X). They still believe Louis Farruakhan was on in the assassination. Malcolm mellowed and the Nation of Islam didn't like it because he gained a lot of popularity after he changed.

MLK was one of the greatest Americans in history. He adopted a non-violent philosophy from Mahatma Gandhi. He went through bombings, beatings, jails, dogs, firehoses, and even foresaw his own death in Memphis the day before it happened.

"I've been to the mountaintop and I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you, but we as a people will get to the promised land!" I'll never forget that, and I am a white, southern male. He spoke for every fair-minded American.

He won the Nobel Peace prize, and I believe his "I Have A Dream" speech was one of the greatest oratories in the history of the world.

Both were dedicated not only to the cause of civil rights but human rights and peace.

Sorry, but don't think much of either one of them. They both tried to make changes that weren't for the betterment of all. It's because of MLK that English is the second language in three of the US states. Just as he taught Blacks to be proud, he taught Mexicans to be proud and speak Spanish instead of English.

It may not be right, but that's the way it is.

X was much more radical. Ironically, he was killed by his own people because they thought he was making too many compromises with non-Muslims.

MLK was a Christian.
