What are you a 10 year old, a mother of 3, pregnant with morning sickness or trying to get pregnant? Make your mind up! If other users check 'your questions' they will understand that you are a fake!
However i shall answer your question for all of those out there who really need advice!
As a Mother, student Midwife and breastfeeding support 'buddy' I know how upsetting it can be if your baby wont feed. Some babies just need a bit more prompting than others! Make sure you are sitting straight (to support your back) with your legs uncrossed, put the baby on pillow on your lap with 'babies tummy 2 mummy and nose 2 nipple', bring the baby to your breast instead of your breast to baby & make sure baby opens mouth widely and that the nipple goes up towards roof of babies mouth so he/she is properly attatched. Dont hold the back of babies head, instead support his/her neck with your hand. Try holding baby with your arm on opposite side than the breast you wish to feed on, support your breast with the other hand by holding underneath it. This can be particularly helpful if you have very large breasts. Has the midwife checked if the baby is tongue tied? this can prevent the baby from latching on properly. Access your local Breastfeeding/Infant feeding support group (your doctor/Midwife will have the details for this service). Dont give up coz 'Breast is Best', be determined and you CAN do this. Try expressing some milk (to keep milk flow production) and give it to baby using a teat that resembles a nipple (Regular bottle/teats can hinder breastfeeding as it is a different sucking mechanism) until you can see your midwife.
Ps If after perseverance you really cannot carry on breast feeding consider using Aptamil formula milk, it is slightly more expensive but the constituents of it make it healthier and more easily digestable than other formulas.

If you're under 28 days postnatal, you could ask your community midwife to come back in and help,or after that time period, see if your Health Visitor is any good (some MWs and HVs are brilliant, others less so).

What I'd suggest though, is that you call a breastfeeding counsellor ASAP!

You can get hold of one through the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) - the NCT Breastfeeding Line is open 8am-10pm every day, with trained breastfeeding counsellors who will listen and help: 0870 444 8708;

or La Leche League telephone helpline 0845 120 2918.

Good luck!

first off if u have given ur baby a dummy or bottle thats probly what is causing the baby not to take ur breast.try having a soothing warm bath and stimulating let down(also try using some baby nappies and wetting them in warm water and placing them on ur breast for let down)then get ur baby relaxed and bring the baby to ur breast not the breast to baby!some mums find the rugby hold(baby lying underneath ur arm like a rugby ball!)easy.while the baby is feeding talk in a low gentle voice and make sure that the lips look as if it were a suction cup!good luck hope this helps

Don't stress! I presume you have tried, and even if baby only suckled for a little while, baby has taken some of your goodness! Go and get yourself a tin of baby formula, a bottle and enjoy!! There is no point fighting a simple matter like this. My third baby wouldn't latch on ... after a couple of days it was becoming a stressful situation and in my mind, feeding/eating should be a relaxed thing. SMA gold ... and just follow the feeding instructions. Enjoy!! I am sure baby will too!

Don't top up feeds with formula because it will affect your milk supply ie.you will make less and so the baby wont be happy when put to breast as it wont get sufficent enough feeds fast enough.

give him formula milk. Not all babies like breast milk. Dont worry.

Speak to your midwife and she should be able to suggest a good alternative.

First... Just relax. Your baby will come around, just keep trying. You do need to be comfortable and not so stressed tho. Until your baby takes to your breasts, just suppliment with formula so your baby stays healthy. It may help to have soft music on while trying to feed your baby by breats, anything that is comforting to you will help. You both have to be comfortable and as least stressed as you can manage.

if your baby wont take the breast you need to talk to your midwife and top up with baby formula and keep trying the breast and relax as this can make the baby feel more secure
