I think I know what you are referring to. Because I am a person that has spent a great deal of time alone I can only think of what you are thinking of as a fantasy. She was never mine, yet in my mind we spent endless nights together. I used her image to take away my loneliness, I used her eyes to answer my prayers only to awaken alone. When I awakened to my cruel and unforgiving world I missed her understanding and warmth. I miss her so much but deep down I know I was never good enough for her, she had a way of putting me in my place and surrounding me with shame because she knew how sensitive I was and then she could use me as her fool. Even so, she was never really mine, in the end she ripped out my heart and took away my pride, she took away my desire to try, I spent most of my life trying to erase how she made me feel with very little luck in recapturing the person I once was. For this reason I always walk alone.

You can't miss something that was never yours simply because you can never really own anything. So if you're missing something...that's just a misplaced feeling regarding the futility of existence in general.
Uh-oh...someone replaced my comic books with René Descartes again.

Yes it is, I've missed a few guys that I didn't have any official relationships with, funny as it is.I think we miss things that provide us with some form of comfort , even for a little while, and when it's gone we miss it.

Yes. I missed a man that was never mine. He was just an acquaintance but to me it was love and infatuation. I think I had an entire relationship in my imagination. But it was easier to get over, when he was gone, than a real relationship. Okay, that sounds nuts, please don't call the funny farm.

I like supgrrrl's answer you can't miss it if you never had it but you can still wish you'd had a chance.

totally... think often that kind of misisng is the worst cos it's kind of missing the potential of something - like missing what could have been. it can hurt more.

i think its possible to miss thinking they were yours when you see they're with someone else. like day dreaming, or dreaming...wishing, hoping. yes, but not missing them...like that.
