I really would like to thank everyone for the time you put in to your answers. It has been helpfull. Yesterday I just test drove the 2007 ES460 it was an experience, coupled with the reliablity and great resale, I'm regrettfully going with Lexus, I really want to give my money to the Germans but you guys dropped the ball. To the Americans and Germans, get back to the basics, make a good reliable car(Germans) and a car you can look at(Americans) and
we'll buy it. This boy doesn't want to buy Japanese but do I have a choice? Again thank you all.

The vast majority of the copying is done by the Japanese and the Koreans in turn make bad copies of Japanese cars.

That said, the days of Mercedes "die beste oder nicht" are over. The cars they build now are not of the unparalleled quality and durability they were in the 1980s and in all the years before. In fact, Audi and BMW have gotten so much nicer that they often have the better car in a particular class when compared with Mercedes and Mercedes has the worst reliability of the three.

The Lexus does not have real heritage like the Mercedes and it definitely mimics European design, but it is the new standard for quality in the automotive industry right now and they are becoming more and more innovative and orginal with every generation. Besides, Mercedes sh*ts all over their own heritage by cutting corners in build quality and reliability now. The reliability difference is vast and Lexus knows how to treat their customers well and keep them happy. Buying a Lexus now is a no-brainer. They have superb reliability, excellent resale value and industry leading build quality. For your $50-60,000 do you really care if the Japanese designers were "inspired" by the Bauhaus or do you just want the BEST car overall?

That's what you need to ask yourself.

I drive a mercedes and they are definitely not as solid as they used to be 20 years ago. I would go for the Lexus, especially now that Mercedes is struggling with quality issues and image.

The Lexus will be way better as far as reliability goes. The Mercedes should be more comfortable, better features, better ride, etc. Go drive them both, see what you like, then factor in that the Lexus parts and service will cost less and you will need less of them.

I drive a Mercedes and their is no other, all the rest are just cars. The Asians have been copying the European designs for years, to make their cars more palatable to the US/European Market. Everyone has their personnel preference, and living in Germany my preference is Mercedes. When matching performance, quality, comfort, and longevity I personally do not believe their is an alternative to Mercedes. In the US, the performance aspect would not be so important do to the speed limit restrictions.

Mercedes-Benz ALL THE WAY!!!
It has a real brand name, Safer, faster, better handling, better quality, and yes very very realible cars.

I hate Japanese cars they are so crude and passionless, Japs are now copying Germans the true automotive genius. The only good cars are cars made by Europeans not asians or americans.
