Ties are designed to look like arrows. The arrow is pointing directly at our male sex organ thereby pointing out that we are men. Women do not wear ties in the office place. The tie is simply a fashionable way of saying "Get out there and rustle me up a cup of coffee little lady. I'm the boss MAN!"

1st Time Mamma can lead me around by my arrow whenever she wants. YES MAM! Judging from the hat I'll bet she's wearing black leather boots.

Although I appreciate and get a good laugh out of YahooGuru2u's answer, I always look at ties like leashes. It would be easier for a woman to grab onto his tie/leash & walk him around the office (because you know they are secretly panting as you, the woman, strut your stuff through the office!) The men follow you around like a dog, if that is how you want to demonstrate your control.

Others would say it is a giant phallus worn around the neck of the dominant males. Removing the need of taking off your pants to exert dominance.

I used to deliver documents to be signed to Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, and believe me, it's Casual Friday all week long.
You wear a tie there and Bam, you're Out.
They're not allowed to organize their offices, either.
But look at the result...
