He has shown up at my home, way buzzed, with his kid in tow. How do I keep him from drinking and driving with his kid in the car?

I have a friend in a simular situation, we have talked to him, offered to drive for him, all sorts of things, it has even gotten to the point of where we thought we were going to lose the friendship, because we took his keys but in the end you can't force someone to do something ...the thing of it is unfortunatly you may have to report your friend to child protective services, or wait until something bad happens and your friend comes to his senses. Hopefully nothing too bad will happen, do you want to take this chance? We debate this constantly.

Don't Drink and Drive -

You could take away his keys -

You could even try talking to him (when he's sober)

You could refuse to allow him to come to your place if he's been drinking

You could offer to go and pick him and the kid up

Or you could let him know that if he continues to drink and drive while the child is in the car, you will call the police to let them know that he is drinking and driving. You might lose a friendship but at the same time you could save several lives.

Showing the tough love may help him wake up to his stupidity. But if you keep silence he may think that you don't find anything wrong with it.

Oh what a choice to make.

ask him to stop, he more than likely will not. Advise him that if he shows up at your place drinking and driving, you will report him, and do it, He is not only a danger to him self but his children in the car and any one out side of the car, the guy is bad news all around. Also suggest you contact AL ANON as soon as possible to help you deal with this abuse and yes it is abuse he is playing with your conscience
