A perfect number is a whole number, an integer greater than zero and when you add up all of the factors less than that number, you get that number.
Examples
The factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3 and 6.
1 + 2 + 3 = 6

The factors of 28 are 1, 2, 4, 7, 14 and 28.
1 + 2 + 4 + 7 + 14 = 28

The factors of 496 are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 31, 62, 124, 248 and 496.
1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 31 + 62 + 124 + 248 = 496

It's a number that is the sum of the factors of the number itself.
E.g. 28=1+2+4+7+14

Perfect number, in mathematics, does not talk about being a perfect thing but rather it refers to a number whose sums of its proper factor (factors of a number excluding the number itself) is equal to the number. Examples are 6 and 28. The proper factors of 6 are 1, 2, and 3 and 6 = 1 + 2 + 3. Also for 28, factors are, 1, 2, 4, 7, 14 and 28 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 7 + 14.

A perfect number one such that the sum of its factor (not including itself) is equal to itself.

Example: 6 is a perfect number, because the factors of 6 are {1, 2, 3} and 1+2+3 = 6.

Another example is 28.
The factors of 28 less than 28 are: 1, 2, 4, 7, 14
1+2+4+7+14 =
3+4+7+14 =
7+7+14 =
14+14 = 28
