...what?! You're joking right?

The Royals are spending a lot of money this offseason. The team has already spent to acquire Gil Meche, Octavio Dotel, David Riske, Jason LaRue, Ken Ray, Joakim Soria, Brandon Duckworth and Zach Day!!!

In addition they made some smart trades to bring in Brian Bannister and Ross Gload. The core of the team is comprised of young talent and a few hold-on veterans. Look at an offense that could include budding stars: Ryan Shealy, Mark Teahen, Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, David DeJesus and Joey Gathright. This can be combined with veterans like Reggie Sanders, Mike Sweeney and Mark Grudzielanek to make a formidible lineup.

Then look at the rotation that conceivably consists of Meche, Perez, Bannister, Day and Elarton. A solid bullpen with guys like Riske, Gobble and Dotel behind the starters and you're talking about a solid ballclub.

It's not that the team isn't moving in the right direction, especially since Dayton Moore took over as GM, but it takes time. You can't expect every team to dump "Yankees Money" out there for a team every year.

Trust me, I'm a Twins fan. It just takes time...and patience.

The biggest problem is that they don't have as much money to spend like the bigger market teams. They rely more on their farm system. They spent some money on some pitching this off season, and are trying to get good players at bargain prices. They have some good young talent. Mark Tehan, Emil Brown, adn Ryan Shealy are all going to be great major league players. They also have Kyle Gordon coming up through the farm system, he's going to be a stud.

You have to rememebr how many awesome players today came from the Royals, Jermaine Dye, Johnny Damon and Carlos Beltran are all ex roylas, just to name a few. I think their best move was getting rid of "Beer League" Matt Stairs.

Low attendence, small television market. It's not his fault, It's still a business and he has to turn profit, I'm sure he would love to spend more money, he is just in the wrong city. The teams that spend all the money are in large population areas and big TV markets, like NY, LA, CHI, BOS. Those teams have huge TV deals and sell 3 million plus tickets a year at a good price. But at least thay are spending a little more this year, thats all you can ask. The only way to compete with these big spenders is to draft well(get lucky) developing first class pitching talent in the minor league level and have an excellent minor league system with scouts that know what their talking about.

Wake up! Where have you been the last several weeks where everyone's been talking about how idiotic the Royals were to overpay to get Meche? Also, they signed Sweeney to a big deal a few years back. The problem is no one wants to play in KC... so they trade guys like Damon, Beltran, etc before they can be free agents.

You guys were playin' like you meant it during the last part of the season and with your new additions I predict an impressive '07. I'm so sad my White Sox traded Ross Gload, he's one of my favorite players. I'm gonna miss yelling "put in Ross Gload" at every game. (I really don't like Baldy Konerdko) And you got Gil Meche, I like him, too. Maybe your prayers are being answered? I predict a battle in the AL West between the Royals and Mariners. See ya at the game!

WELL HE DID SPEND SOME OF HIS WELFARE ON GIL MECHE. I THINK YOUR OWNER IS PART OF THE PROBLEM IN BASEBALL. REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF EWING KAUFMANN & HIS ABILITY TO KEEP ALL THOSE GREAT ROYAL PLAYERS ( BRETT, GURA, & OTHERS )? THEY WENT TO THE PLAYOFFS ALMOST EVERY YEAR. YOU
JUST NEED AN OWNER WITH BRAINS.
