Well..when they play at their own place..its like their "home"..and obv u feel most comfortable at ur own home...they have 90% support of the spectators..they know the place as they practice there...the coach knows it better...he and players get encouragement from crowd (in most cases)..and home team usually don't like conceding goals at their own ground...etc..basically home team have slight advantage...but when ur away...its not tht its tougher physically..coz ur facing the same team...but its in ur mind...u dont have much support from crowd..they usually boo the away side...and things like that...

To start with, its the crowd noise and booing which can make any seasoned player lose his nerve (and the ball!!). They can be distracted by the constant noise and shouting thrown at them by the home team supporters.
secondly, a goal scored in an away match is extremely valuable.. so home teams try extra hard not to concede goals... that makes life a lot more difficult for teams playing away from home......

The visitor might never play in the venue before. It's a strange place for them and probably need some time of getting use to the field. (i.e. length and width, soil , grass, weather, etc).
But for that they get away goal advantage (if they make any).

not letting them to score ..the away goal is very important because is one goal is counted as two goals..this is extremely important when the aggregate score is the same .
