Dishwashing Gel

1/2 pound plain white bar soap
1/2 gallon water

Grate soap into flakes and place in large pot with water. Stir to dissolve flakes. Boil 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Pour into a glass jar and allow to cool without a lid. Once cool, cover to prevent soap from drying out. As soap sits it will thicken to a gel consistency.

To use, pour into a squirt bottle, filling bottle 1/4 full. Fill bottle with hot water and shake before using.

I think with all of the home remedies you will find, your best bet is what "gabound75" said: go to the store and buy the proper soap.

Your dishwasher is intended to use that and if you use other stuff, it might mess it up after awhile (if you run out a lot). Even the 99 cents stores carry cheap dish-washing liquid or powder. Suds are the worst thing to use. If I run out, I just do them by hand, or go buy more dish-washing detergent.

Whatever you do don't use Dawn or any other dish detergent. The suds will leak out and take over our whole house. Seriously, I made that mistake once. Just suck it up, put on your house shoes, and get out there to the store and pick up some dishwashing liquid. That's your best bet.

General note: When you try to "pimp" your dishwasher by not following the manufacturer's directions, the appliance has a tendency to "pimp" you back.

Accept no substitutes when it comes to appliances in the HUNDREDS of DOLLARS!
