I ask because with my daugter I was in pain and sleepy and they were very pushy about letting me recover and giving her a bottle. I did end up breastfeeding in the hospital.. but I don't want that with this one. I want to breastfeed right away.. no matter how tired or in pain I am.

Also, how long afterb birth till he is hungry... can he wait until the placenta is out?

There's no way in hell I'd let them give my baby a bottle. Even after my c-section he came right back to our room with my husband and me . He NEVER left our sight and i fed him as soon as they were done stitching me up. he slept and nursed, at his will, in the bed right with me the whole time we were in the hospital. Otheriwse my husband held him skin to skin.

have them put the baby on your chest right after he/she is out. They can cover you both with a blanket and wait until later to do all the invasive crap they feel they need to do. If your baby is hungry he will root, if not he will probably just gaze up at you or sleep. Let him decide.

They can wait until the placenta is out, but nature designed it so that suckling would cause the uterus to contract and help expell the placenta and firm up the uterus.

Yes I reast feed right away... they weighed her & brough her back to me (maybe 6 mins went by) and I started to nurse her...did the same with my son. When you are admitted (if not in mind blowing pain) ask if they can have a lactose consultanat come in then, tell them what happended last time & that will not e acceptable this time. They will gladly relay to the nurses & you will get your way. I can not believe a hospital would give formula over culustum for the first feeding that is insane!

And yes the baby can easily wait until the placenta is out mine took to the breast right away while some babies refuse for a hour or so.

with my first baby 10 years ago the nurses were pushy and told me they needed to give a bottle .....i told them i didn't want that and i was informed that they needed to see if she was swallowing correctly....well 3 years later my second daughter was born and took straight to the breast...i was much more confident...she only ever had the breast and my third daughter was born c-section and only had the breast too....so stick to your guns and breastfeed as soon as you want.....they are your children and mine are still living at 6 and 3....

Yes he can wait I didnt get to feed my daughter until 2 hours after birth and make sure you tell them your wishes as to no bottles strictly breastfeeding they should respect your wishes.

Yes he can wait. I had to have a c-section. My son was born at 8pm and I did not get him until 11pm. They did not give a bottle and he nursed just fine.

Yes, the baby can wait to breastfeed. I waited for all everything to settle down before I nursed with my children.
