I'd rather have a cake mix cake over bakery cake any day.
I dont like the icing or the pineapple, or strawberry type fillings that they use for bakery cakes.
Bakery cakes just look very pretty, imo

I agree the frosting usually tastes like pure shortening, yuck.

Yes, Bakery Cakes do look pretty, but for sheer appreciation by the recipient there is nothing like having them receive a cake that someone made just for them in the kitchen ... and yes, even though it may not be decorated professionally, it is the thought that counts.

I don't like cakes from bakeries. I don't use cake mix very often.
I make my cakes from scratch. I make the icing and the cake all from scratch. Cakes from scratch are soooo good!

I like to make my own. If I by it from a bakery it's to sweet. The icing is really sugary.
