Here is an even bigger issue. We all know that Helen of Troy was a real person, correct? Guess who Helen's father was? That's right, Zeus. So -- if Zeus was such a mythological figure, how does he have a mortal daughter? Look it up. I read it in my Greek Book of Mythology. Freaky, isn't it?

Ancient Greeks believed in Zues over 2000 years ago. No one seriously believes in the Greek gods any more (with no notable exceptions.) It just fun to tell the stories.

He exists in the same way as Bilbo Baggins, in the minds of people, you can't really say he doesn't/didn/t exist. He was quite influential at times, even.
Like all gods with a bit of history he changed over time, from a demi-god/heros to the ruler of the world, but so did the Jewish god when he became Christian.
And if somebosy says there is no new god these days - there is, it is Mammon/Pluto, the god of riches.

Gods come and go with power of the societies that believe in them.
Islam and Christianity are both primitive pre-scientific, pre-industrial, and for all practical purposes, pre-literate religions.
So, basically today's religion's gods were made so ignorant, illiterate, nomadic, herders could find explanations for things that they could not explain.
It is interesting that you do not see any new gods cropping up, and you do not see any of the old gods making any appearances ever since science began providing real knowledge.
Maybe they are just camera shy, but ever since mankind has had a way to verify and confirm their existence, they have been really hard to find. In fact, they have been invisible and non-existence.
Does anyone really believe that there are a real Jesus and Mohamed sitting in a bar somewhere drinking beer and eating chips while they watch the Iraq war on TV and place bets on who wins?
Or maybe they take it outside to the parking lot and roll around on the pavement wrestling for awhile - until God rings the dinner bell and they have to go home.

Actually there is a growing movement in Greece to revitalize all the Greek Gods, and some people are starting to worship in the Pantheon again. My Greek (language) teacher told me this.

he is a God, a reilgious figure to be exact, not real, but believed by ancient greek people. Some crazies out there may still think it's true, but greek mythology is so original and fanciful, that i think it's best considered fictional literature.

Zeus is no less preposterous than the white bearded old man called God in many Christian churches. Two thousand years from now people will look back on us and marvel at our mythology.

yes,i do believe that he exists.and the fact what you said about that He is considered God is also true.and that the wiccans and pagans do believe in Him.He is the main God out of all of them in greece.the fact that He was concieved by his Mother Gaia,He won the battle over his brother Cronus.which Cronus tried to rule the intire colony of Greece.and when Zeus found this out He tried to defeat Him.after He did defeat Him,He was considered God through all of Greece.all of them worship Him as the Main God,the fact that he had a heaven on His own called the Olympus.there all that believes in Him will live happily there.
i hope this helps you on the role of Zeus, and why alot of ppl still believe in Him and worship Him today.you can check out the wikipedia website and type His name in the search bar on the left corner and learn more about Him.or you can google His name and find more links.
Blessed Be,
