There is a senior citizen home close near our home. I put an ad on the bullentin board in the rec hall looking for lawn care help. Well with the expenses of the home a LOT of people called me to inquire about the position. I told them to come by and I would show them the yard and we would discuss the price and what I expect to be done from who ever I decide to hire. Well I have hired MANY of them,..they will work for peanuts and most of them have never complained and the other day my wife noticed that "Dennis" one of the workers was out in the yard raking and mowing the 1 acre lawn we have (He is 74) She was mad at me because she noticed I had been laying on the couch watching TV and drinking beer while "Dennis" was out sweating and panting. Seems he got a bit dehydrated..I provide the water..I cannot force to the people to drink it. SO she is mad at me now? What gives? I am providing a valuable service to the seniors of our community..I am afterall paying them minimum wage.

Well there is nothing wrong with it as long as you are paying them and providing ice cold water or Gatorade for them. Elderly feel worthless once they are put in a home, so to be able to get out of there and to be working makes up for the feeling of worthlessness. Plus they are earning their own money too. I think your helping the elderly and at the same time they are helping you. But don't over work them they are allot older than the usual yard workers and could get sick allot easier!!!

Well that depends.... I mean that guy probably needs money ( thats why he is working) He might not have anyone to take care of him so he has to earn money on his own. But you can help him. like when he is out doing lawn work just go out there and help him out a bit. On the other hand ur paying him the money but Minimum wage is not all that money for lawn care. Here in FL they take 50$ just to trim the lawn which takes like 20 min. Maybe you and every one in ur community can have like a fund raiser for that guy so he would not have to work till he finds a less physical job...It all depends on what level of kindness your heart is.

I would say put your self in someone elses shoes. He probably likes to work, but minimum wage is for cheap skates. You should at least pay the old guy good. Look at him as if he was your father and respect your elders. After all your on your way their as well....
