Well, I couldn't go barefoot but I did go until one week before my due date with the 1st one. I had a job working in a department store, you couldn't even really sit down except on your break. I bought comfortable shoes with a low, wide heel. That seemed to work better than a flat for me. With the second, I had to take off two weeks early because I had to climb a lot of stairs and the boss was worried (my Dr. and I weren't, though). It made him nervous that I was going to fall. (I worked there 5 years and never fell once). Anyway, you and your doctor should make that decision together. See if your boss or co-workers can come up with ideas to get you up out of that chair more often, even for just a few minutes at a time. Believe it or not, you will actually feel better by moving around more instead of less.

With my first pregnancy i was having a hard time - blood pressure, swelling, preeclampsia and was put on modified bed rest and besides i couldn't handle working i was just tooo uncomfy and swollen-- so I ended up only working until my 6th month. However this pregnancy- ive had almost no swelling etc etc.. i have a "sit at my desk all day" job and i'm 33 weeks now and still working.. i am due Feb 2 and am starting my maternity leave january 14... (so hopefully i don't go early.. hehe) The best thing to do is to get up and walk as much as you can... at my job it's hard to get up often (because im on the phone etc etc) but i get up once every hour to use the bathroom or to go refill my water bottle.. i drink as much water as i can and get up to walk to the bathroom as much as i can and so far things have been fine. Try that- and seriously if it's too uncomfortable for you to be at work and you can do it- think about taking your maternity leave early.. it's not worth tiring yourself out over - you've got a baby to rest up and prepare for and that is far more important in the long run- if anything just try and cut your hours back for now and see how that goes... good luck =)

LOL...I am a school teacher and I think I stopped wearing shoes in my classroom for the last month! I finished teaching on June 30 and had my baby July 6th (due the 18th) I look back and I don't know how I did it. I was so stressed out but I got more stressed thinking about having the baby early and not having exams written, report cards done etc...Maybe it was my ego, but I felt that no one could do my job and do justice to the kids at such a crucial time of the school year. I'm sure paert of the reason my babe came early was b/c of my stress level for the month of June.
If your Doc writes you a letter, you can get off early. I can't imagine sitting all day. I would have died! Do what's best for you...so, do as I say not as I do...lol

I worked all day the day I had my first baby. I was a machine operator in a factory and on my feet all day on a concrete floor. I think working up till then and being on my feet and active the whole time made the birth a lot easier. I got off work at 3 pm, went home and showered, went out to supper, came home and started having contractions. I called the hospital and let them know that I was having contractions and they were pretty regular about 3 minutes apart for an hour. They asked if it was my first baby and I said yes, and they said, oh first ones take a long time, go relax and call us back when you're screaming in pain. I wasn't having any pain with the contractions, it was just very tight and hard to breathe, so I waited. I called them back again about an hour and a half later, and again they told me the same thing, but said I could come in and get checked if I wanted but they would probably send me home. So I left my husband at home and had my mom take me since he had to work next morning and they would probably send me home. I got there and was checked and I was dialated to 5 and my water broke then. I was admitted at 10:05 pm, called husband he got there around 11:20 pm delivered beautiful baby girl at 11:57 pm. Was a quick easy birth.

I had planned on working until I went into labor, and that's what I did...sort of. I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks. The doctors stopped it, but I obviously went on bedrest until I delivered my little girl 6 weeks later. I was a restaurant manager and worked 60 hours a week always on my feet. I unsucessfully tried to get my hours cut back, and I think the stress and work is what put me in preterm labor. If you start feeling like you can't make it and need to leave early, don't be disappointed or anything. Know your own limitations. I wish I had been more forceful in cutting back my work because I ended up paying for that mistake in medical bills and worrying about my baby.

I worked until 2 weeks before my due date. I did go barefoot at work, my office was very lenient on the dress code.

With my first, I worked up to 38 wks and then had to go on maternity leave. My body hurt so bad and I no longer had ankles...they were so fat. However, with my second child I worked up to 36 weeks! I was miserable...she loved giving me back spasms! Yeah, shoes are no longer a priority at this point.
Congradulations and best wishes with your baby!!!

I worked up until the day I had both of my kids. At the end I bought a cheap pair of flats that were a size bigger then I normally wear and it was comfortable.
