I currently have the Epson RX500.

But I only consider this because its a network printer which would be easier for our family to share. So I am considering this below but I dont know if it will print as good as my Epson which I really love and think it has good quality prints.

you aren't going to beat the print quality of the epson. You are also getting a marginally better cartridge value with the epson.

As for the print, sir nothing prints as good as an epson.

As for the lawsuit that was reference, that is going to be true of all integrated print head printers, a certain amount of ink will always remain in the cartridge in order to prevent the printer from running dry. Hp does it, Brother does it, Canon does it, however epson pioneered the practice.

I own the HP C5180 and it is the best printer I have ever owned. The built in networking is nice to have too. PC Magazine's readers have awarded HP the most reliable printer the past 15 years in a row (Canon has tied with HP the past two years and Epson came in third this year).

Epson printers do nice photos. However, Epson printers are unreliable and very expensive to maintain. I always hear of Epson printers failing after about 1 year (usually due to clogged print heads). And cost per photo with an Epson printer is a rediculous 55 cents per photo after calculating the cost of ink and photo paper. Many users also report problems with the ink cartridges in Epson printers (see www.epsonsettlement.com).

The HP C5180 is a much more friendly printer to operate. It uses 6 cartridges which cost $10 each for the color and $18 for the larger black cartridge. Sound expensive? It's not, because HP sells all 6 cartridges in a combo pack that also contains 150 sheets of 4x6 photo paper for $36. This brings the cost per photo down to 24 cents- about half the cost of an Epson printer. The quality of prints will be great with the C5180. I've been very pleased with mine and the cartrdiges last a great while. The HP ink cartridges completely empty themselves of ink.

I've included a link about the C5180. I've also included a link about Epson printers. Don't get me wrong, Epson printers do good photos, but HP is a more reliable company and the ink is so much cheaper while getting great photos.

Evidently, the answerer "smedrik" is not aware that on the C5180, the ink cartridges DO NOT have integrated print heads. Neither do the Epson printers for that matter. On the C5180 the ink in the cartridges are VACUUMED out and disperesed onto the paper by means of a completely seperate print head. Take a look for yourself at an HP C5180 and you will see that the cartridges are completely stationary. She probably works for Epson and is trying to be a salesperson online.

you made the right choice - i go for epson just because of its direct-to-cd printing capability, and the color quality as well; personally i have both epson and hp printers - i like them both. hp is quieter and a little faster than epson and has good color printouts, too, but they don't have the cd-printing capability.
