Oh my gosh am I a chicken when it comes to snakes (and spiders!) When my dad catches one I just can't help screaming and running away. (the neighbors probably don't like this but how would they like having a dad you wants you to hold a slimey scumy gross reptile?)

I don't "fear" snakes, but I don't keep them due to my attraction to small mamals. Really, if I has a snake eat one of my gliders, I don't care how much I like that snake, we're gonna have two deaths in the family that day. The fear of snakes because of what you've seen on TV would, no offense, be reffered to as "ignorance" as you don't understand that snakes kept as pets are never venomous, and keeping away from wild snakes isn't fear, just common sense. Are you going to try to make nice to say, a wild cat, even a small one? Why do you think a snake would be any different?
Um, as a note on the side... how old are you? Because if you're in, say, the 7th grade or higher you should sound more inteligent. I'm not calling you stupid, it's just a good idea to read over anything you type, especially if you know you're not good with grammar, before you post it. You're not as bad as some people are though.... You really weren't all that bad at all, but one sentence that's porely put together can bring down anything.
But yeah, snakes aren't scarey. If venom is your worry, you won't have that problem walking by their cages in a petstore, not only are they harmless *not to say it wouldn't hurt if they did bite you* but you normally have an effective barrier between you and them. No worries, they're more afraid of you than you are of them, no doubt ~_^

The fear of snakes is called Ophidiophobia.
I absolutely love snakes. I have two, soon to be three. Those TV shows you mention totally give snakes a bad name and the vast majority are harmless. Snakes aren't evil. They're just animals.

That statement is wrong on so many levels.
MANY people do infact keep venomous snakes as pets.
I do not prefer them but there are some beautiful ones out there.
b.t.w I had the honor of meeting a young velvet tail rattlesnake. It was more docile than one of my very own captive bred and kept corns.

Not freaked out. I love the reptile section in the zoo. If I had the ability to make a commitment to a pet, I would consider a snake. However, I'm not home enough to keep a plant alive so it wouldn't be fair to get a scaley, limbless, little companion right now.

I'm not phobic of snakes, but I can understand why people would be freaked out by the unchanging expression, glassy eyes, and being able to move without limbs. Oh, and it's called ophidiophobia.
