Interesting question... I agree that science is key to understanding our pasts (as are historians), and technologically advancing our society...
Certainly science and other students in general should receive more support, support that is all to frequently allocated to things like the schools football team.
But valuing science students over BA students in history, politics, law, psychology, philosophy, etc would be wrong as well.
Science needs a moral and ethical basis, something that has become lost in many industries such as pharmaceutical companies... profit over safety.
Lacking the other studies (Arts)... the ethical background that induces companies to behave in a fashion that is beneficial to the people, not just the stock holders.

I believe that's called a faulty premise. The scientific method has only been around for about a hundred years, and hasn't even been perfected yet. Science is a noble endeavor, but so is language arts, without which scientists could not communicate, math for quantifying observations, and history and religion for putting those results into perspective. Perhaps rephrasing your claim would help you get more support, i.e. Science plays such an important role in today's world because of technological advances, shouldn't we set more money aside for students so that we can maintain and/or improve the conditions of our society?

Don't look for support. On the contrary, Scientists support the society. If you are a true worker, you will find built-in support automatically. It seems you are not a true worker, you want to avail off without work.
Correct yourself.

Do they?
Without refuse collectors we would all die of infectious disease in a couple of months. Without sewer engineers even shorter time. Without farmers we would starve. They all get paid an absolute pittance.

I agree with that but it is hard to measure, let alone students should get more support. Who will support them? in what ways?
