I am a recovering alcoholic for 20years and thought I was strong enough,as I can sit in a bar with drunks all day an not be bothered(yes! I have acceped that some people can go out and get drunk and not automaticaly be classed as alcoholics)This was not a problem until my friend rang me drunk one night and told me he was going to kill himself(he cut his wrists). He cannot acept that I have a problem and just gets angry at me.How can I tell him I don't want to see him when he's drunk.(he has a habit of arivimg drunk at my door in the small hours of the morning). What can I do?

Be blunt and be prepared to cut him loose completely if you have to. You've got enough to deal with on your own without also putting up with his nonsense.

Tell him that as a good friend of his, you cant bear to watch him waste his life like that. If he has a family, he seriously needs some help. But I dont know how you could get a person like this into Rehab. Remind him of what you went through, and you as a friend can be a source of inspiration.

Dude seriously, BE BLUNT. don't beat around the bush do not worry about hurting feelings. I deal with this on a daily basis, and they will keep coming back, so you must stand firm, and tell it like it is.

Give it to him straight!! Both my aunties are drunks and drug addicts, i thought they were stupid coz they buy alcohol and drugs before they buy food for their kids and my mum set them straight. She told them either get you're act together or i don't want to know you. They caused alot of trouble for my mum, they caused her and my dad to break up the first time coz they were forever borrowing money off them. So my advice is give it to him straight or watch him spiral or you'll get caught in it.

Your friend is being totally insensitive and thoughtless. I'd tell him bluntly that I would be there for him when he is sober but not when he is drunk, and stick with it. Otherwise it will eventually ruin any friendship you have together.
