In the corner of the screen appears the sign to safely remove the drive and appears under the name of USB Mass Storage Device.

Nowadays, most external devices are conveniently connected to a computer using the USB ports. Some USB devices like flash drives should only be removed after stopping it, otherwise the USB device may be damaged and data lost. Some times, the USB device is not recognized by the computer due to a number of reasons. Please visit http://fixit.in/usbdevice.html for more information

Have you tried going online and downloading the proper drivers? I know Windows XP is supposed to come with all the proper drivers but if it is a new device. Also I would suggest checking the company website for information on trouble shooting. If you still can't get it to work try contacting customer support (If you can that us)

Iomega is famous for hard to detect drives, and probably has some software on their site that will help you. I have a maxtor one touch that must have software installed, and if yours is active backup, etc it probably requires software.
