ah! That depends on what you mean by happiness, and for that matter, love.
Yes, when you are poor, the lack of money for basic needs makes a person unhappy.
Yes, people, on a whole, are always trying to aquire more money and goods, even when they have met every need. In fact, the world ecconomy would collapse if people were ever content with what they needed and then wanted no more. So yes, I concede that the world revolves around money. It rules the world.
But is it everything? Can it buy Happiness or Love?
I believe that it can not. I present first some examples and then an explaination.
Everyone desires happiness (see the Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle for details).Hence, everyone who had enough money would buy happiness. Therefore, the happiest people would be the richest people. Yet, we don't see that. Look at the rate of suicide, depression, and self-destructive behavoir such as drug abuse among the rich. (All are accepted proxies for unhappiness.) By your theory it should be close to nil, but it isn't. Also,in many public forums rich people have openly admitted that they are unhappy and often lonely.
To counter this I have seen people who are poor by comparison, who feel non the less satisfied and even blessed in their lives and would say they are happy.
Therefore, it stands to reason that there is little association between money and happiness.
Nor, can it buy love. Look at the divorce rate among the rich, it is no better than anyone else. Celebrity relationships are notoriously short. And again, there are poor people who are happily married.
Therefore, there is something other than money in the world that people need to be happy.
But what is it? That should be your next question.
I will say this much, people who obtain a level of contentment (no matter how much money they have, or don't have) often also obtain a level of happiness.
People who learn to love and forgive, also obtain love and forgiveness in return.
Perhaps if we leave philosophy and enter the realm of religion, we might find the answer, but that would a different area of yahoo!anwers.
After all, in the Bible we read 1st Timothy 6:10 "for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." (Though note, it is not the root of "all evil" as often misquoted.)
Take care and may you find what your are looking for.

We need to ask Bill Gates if he thinks he is the happiest person having bought all the happiness and the possessor of the best love that he has bought with the innumerable tons of money he has got ........ or do you think he may not be smart enough to know which happiness and which love to buy? To me though he does not look like the happiest person nor even the most loved one amongst us.
Tell me, how much money will make an incurable cancer patient happy or a 1 yr old child smile at you or your loving mother let you suffer!!
Money is quite important and it is indeed romantic foolishness to negate its power in the modern world, but by no means it is either all important or all powerful!!

Money is needed for living. We have to be practical. But just because you have money does not mean that you are happy. In fact having too much money makes you a target with kidnappers, criminals and sycophants who want to take it from you. You will have to worry on how you plan to protect you and it.
You cannot influence the birth or death process by using money. Neither can you buy true love, the love you buy for you money is for the money. If she did love you, she would not have asked for money !!! Were you able to perceive the contrast ?
You could be happy with money, you can buy whatever you want, but god forbid, if you were ill, it can just buy you hospital comforts but not real living! A person without money and without illness will be more happy than the one with illness.
Love, Health, Wisdom, Happy life, Faith, Trust are important aspects which cannot be purchased with all the money in the world.
Money is not everything!!

I have known money.
It can not buy happiness. You are dependent on something that you cant trust, doesn't care about you, and is wanted by other people that don't care about you.
The things that money brings are all relative. Eventually 1,000,000 dollars is the same as whatever you are making now. You get used to your environment.
This is why women sue claiming that they have grown accustomed to their lifestyle and their husbands "owe them."
Money doesn't buy love. Love is not a woman in a bikini. Love is not 20 models in your bed. Love is not a lazy woman who wants you to buy stuff for her for kisses and to make her happy or to feel loved. Love may be knowing your wife could burn her whole body up in a fire and be paralized and need you to change her diapers and it wouldn't even be an issue. Because you know she would do it for you and she loves you. And you still love her more everyday because she is who she is INSIDE, and she is your wife.
The whole world may revovle around money. But it also revolves around rape, child abuse, lies and selfish gain and murder and greed and all this other stuff.
The fact is that satan has authority to do what he wants right now. And he wants you to go down his path. Please listen to me.
Jesus was right
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
If you ever want out of this deception which I am free of, call on God to free you of it and learn about his son. Jesus.
I speak from experience. I speak from experience. I am free and freer everyday as I learn and see what I could never see.
I owe it all to God.
Don't be discouraged.

Sure if you want to be an a$$ about it, I agree though money can buy anything, but whether or not what you bought means anything is a different story. Money is not everything either, it may seem like it to you but you obviously haven't experienced true happiness or enlightenment.

No money is not everything. I mean you can buy love but that love will love for your money not you...money just buys you stuff and you may get bored of it. But money CAN buy you happiness.

Yes, money can make your life better, but only to a certain point.
There are people who make $20K a year who are happier than people who make a million a year.
Consider Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. Money can solve psysiological and safety needs, but isn't needed for the rest -belonging, esteem, self-actualization.

tell me how it can buy love
just tell me
cause i dont believe it.
haven't you heard the beatles song, 'cant buy me love?'
it's true! you can't just buy a husband/wife and expect him to love you truthfully. Because if he/she let you buy him/her, it is certain they're doing it for the $$ because they're whores..
sooooooo they definately wouldn't love you.
And sure, you can buy all the products that will make your life efficient and easy, but when it comes down to it, you won't have someone to share things with or hang out. In short, you'll be lonely if you keep that mentality.
