For example, if the employee went to work for the old employers agency or a competitor... Is there an obligation to disclose so that the old company can make a reasonable judgment on continued access to confidential information?

No. The only exception is if the employee signed a contract that stated they would not work for the competition. If there would be a question as to whether the new company was going to be a violation of the contract, the employee would have to disclose the information and get permission to take the new job.

I am not sure if if is an obligation or what, but some places state this when they hire you that if you quit, you cannot work for their competitors for _____ many years. Also if for some reason you are fired, like for fraud, stealing, or something embarassing, your employer might not say anything so you can get another job, on the grounds that you leave quietly.

No. Usually, if it is to do with competitors, there would already be a no-poach agreement between those competitors, and so unless you would have signed a binding agreement with your old employer, there is no way they can force you to disclose your new employer

No you dont have to tell where youre going, just give a reasonable amount of notice! (1-2 weeks)....Your old employer is not your mom..The just have a right to know about what youre doing for them at their company..not what youre gonna do when you leave

oooh, no.. bad idea... bad mojo there.

you can't disclosed confidential info from the old job to the new job anyway... The old job can sue you when they trace it back to you..

plus, nobody likes a tattle tail.

I dont think you have to tell them where you are going, that you have another job. Another thing you need to give then at leat two weeks notice.

No.

Generally it's none of their business where you go to work next. It is not necessary to tell them.
