I recently made a trip to a very well know cemetery in Cleveland. It is called Lakeview Cemetery and it is the home to many famous people, such as James Garfield, Elliot Ness and John D. Rockefeller. Anyway, the cemetery has over 90,000 graves and is so big that they give tours. As I was walking through, I got this strange felling over me. I guess you could say, I got a high thinking about all the knowledge that was in that cemetery. So many intelligent and strong people are buried there. I just wanted to sit down and pray that the energy and knowledge would find it's way into me. I can't wait to go back and I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen? Also, are there any cultures that pray to the dead for strength and knowledge?

If by drawing wisdom from the dead you mean can we learn from studying the lives of those who have died then I would say the answer is,,, yes. That is certainly one aspect of the study of history and it makes little sense to study something like the American Revolution without also giving serious consideration to the life of George Washington but that would be better accomplished in a library than a cemetery

Now if you mean can we absorb some special knowledge by being in close proximity to the remains of some dead individual then I would say the answer is,,,no. Just consider, if that were the case then the wisest among us would be the cemetery grounds keepers and morticians.

I'll leave the questions concerning an afterlife to be addressed by the theologians but I don't think that I need to fear contradiction when I say that once a person dies, aside from matters of pathology, their body has no more information to share with us.

Of course it is still a good idea to eat the heart of a brave enemy in order to gain their courage. That goes without saying.

And then to go a step further with all the dead dinosaurs under us and there is plenty. I guess allot of em became crude oil or something, ....maybe that's why we still have that kind of reptilian style of going about things.

Maybe the fresher dead have the advantage of getting through to us. But then there were some pretty heavy mean dudes and dudettes pushing up the daisies too. What if you walked over Hitlers grave and then you started high steppin when you walked and so forth. See what I mean.

Crap now I won't be able to sleep. I gotta go get a drink.

Absolutely! You can draw wisdom from anyone, deceased or living. It's not unusal to have experiences like yours while in a place that holds many souls/spirits. Opening your heart and mind will bring you more inner peace and understanding than you ever thought possible. It's an amazing feeling!

We can only draw upon the wisdom & energy of the dead if they wrote it down or if they taught it to their descendants and it was taught to us. So no sense sitting around praying for it: you already have some of it available.

I guess we can gain wisdom from the dead by learning from their mistakes.

This site, which is funny, tells how some people have removed themselves from the gene pool by their own stupid acts.

No, they are gone, their knowledge is with them in the afterlife. Not there.
