Nobody is getting in or out until AT LEAST Thursday evening. Don't try to drive here. The roads are AWFUL!!! The interstate are all closed. You're best bet is to wait until you can get a flight and sit tight until then!

Hmm, that's a tough one. The roads are *BAD* here right now and I don't think the snow will let up until the middle of the day on Thursday. I'd suggest Amtrak, but as this storm moves East, it might cause you to get stuck somewhere and I'll bet that everyone else who can't get into Denver from NYC is considering the same. If you are a student, perhaps you can find a board that posts students willing to give a ride to someone going their way. Good Luck. It's probably better to be in NY rather than Denver right now.

Best bet is to have Santa fly you into Denver on Christmas Eve. Or you could just wait it out and try to have a Merry Christmas in NYC! I also like that idea of flying into Salt Lake City, renting a car and Driving the rest of the way. Just remember that the Roads in Colorado aren't the best right now. Good luck and sorry about our snow!

Ironic - I am stuck in Denver until Christmas Eve, trying to get back to Indianapolis. Our family Christmas is on Saturday.
The car rental places all wanted a $500 drop off charge for me to drive. But I-70 is closed anyway.
My suggestion to you is to get to Chicago if your flying United. Since that is their hub, you have a much better chance to get back with more choices. If your not flying United, I would try to get to whoever's hub for the same reason. But keep trying the airline - even though you have to wait on hold for an hour or more. I have talked to them 3 times now, and each time they have different alternatives.
Airport now closed until 6pm Thursday -
Good Luck

I would agree with flying to a city that hasn't been hit and then driving.
Since the blizzard warning in Denver extends into Kansas and Nebraska, I wonder if flying to Salt Lake City and backtracking would be a better plan then going into the front end of the storm?

Fly to Kansas City, MO and drive 500 miles to Denver. That's about the closest city. It's a long drive across Kansas, but it's wide open. Salt Lake City etc... is farther. Albuquerque is about 400 miles but probably wouldn't have a direct flight.

fly to Kansas City or St. Louis and rent a car and drive,DIA is a mess ,they still only have 2 runways open..and they are not running at full speed and there are still many people that cannot get a flight out.
Don't fly to Utah..the roads are worse west of Denver, fly east of Denver and drive in.

Probably try to enjoy your stay in NY, I'am watching the weather in the rocky mountain plains area and they have been hit hard, 12 to 30 inches of snow and blowing at that..but they recover fast there and no how to handle it, but if you cannot get a flight maybe head south and enjoy warmer weather, cause you know this storm will hit the mid west and east next..

Try Colorado Springs and then driving up to Denver. Its only two hours.
Another alternative that the airlines hate is to book a flight to another destination that goes through Denver. Then just don't take the second leg. This only works if you are going one-way though as they will cancel your return trip if you don't go all the way through. And they call it "illegal" but I am not sure their justification.
