Consider what your dad likes. When he reads the newspaper, what sections does he check first? What are his hobbies? What is he good at? Does he like to cook or eat? Does he like mechanical, technical or scientific things? Is he into sports? Is he artistic or a patron of the arts? Does he collect anything? Does he have a good sense of humor? Was he born in another country or has he lived aboad? Does he like to travel? Just some examples of questions to ask yourself, once you have him figured out, then you've limited what you should get for him. And of course you have to consider your pocketbook too.

I once had to get something for my boss. I knew that he liked science so I got him some fossils. He loved the gift. Merry Christmas!

um good question, i need 2 get my dad sumfin... maybe an electric shaver, or a nice bottle of alcohol. How about something electrical like power tools?? or something for the garden?? good luck Chicky :)
