the answer, is undoubtedly yes. we would have less crime.
for one, if something becomes readily available for people who wish to use them, it drops the black market value, to nearly the value of dirt.
other reason include the folowing:
-nobody would have a reason to smuggle or sell them. cops wouldn't have any reason to be n drug dealers' payrolls, delivering the drugs for them.
-people would find college degrees worth more than selling drugs again.
-the hopeless addicts wouldn't have to steal to get $100 to buy a gram or day's worth.
-rehabilitation would be easier, because you wouldn't have to worry about geting arrested when you admit to having a problem.
-people who aren't involved in the drug trade would not have to worry about getting gunned down for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and caught in the middle of drug terf wars.
-no drug dealers catering to your curious children would mean les chance of being introduced to underground world of crime.
-No rebellious teens doing them because they feel adventurous, and want to do something illegal. they'll have to resort back to nude streaking, and sneaking a beer, oh my!
-no more music and movies romanticizing drug dealing.
-$400 billion dollars worth of tax revenue(war on drugs cost) freed up for tax cuts and education, and helping people help themselves create a better life withotu drugs. which incidently strengthens the economy as well.
-less cops getting shot by smugglers
-less smugglers getting shot by cops, and sueing the city they were shot in.
-no more military personel and government workers using their jobs to smuggle drugs into the united states.
- no more terrorists in columbia, killing their own government officals for attempting to follow America's anti-drug policy.
-no more people getting fired from jobs, because they toked on a joint a week or two ago, and got popped for a random. you think a percentage of these folks don't end up doing crime to support themselves?
they were not made illegal because they caused more crime. they were made illegal because people who went off to fight wars came home and became dependant on them, and the puritans in society got sick of seeing drunks and druggies puking in the streets and so intoxicated they would just pass out anywhere.
someone people suggesting you learn more history, themselves need to do so!
by the way, drug dealers are the ones most affraid of decriminalization, because they all know their cash cow is gone once that happens.

Yes. By legalizing drugs and making them available and in the open would take the criminal element out of drug dealing. They couldn't command a high price for something you could get at 7/11. The smugglers would be out of a job and quality regulations could be enforced. Who would want to buy drugs from a street thug that was cut with who-knows-what, when there would be quality, regulated drugs at your local store. The government is throwing too much money at the "war on drugs" and accomplishing nothing more than making some cartel in another country super rich. By legalizing and taxing, the money could be re-couped.
As a side note. For the people who would use the drugs. There should also be a written waiver of liability for destroying their bodies and brains and forced sterilization so that children are not born drug dependent or F#$@^d up. The insurance companies, government and general public should not have to support any medical or financial issues resulting from the misuse of drugs.

Yes we wood. The drug trade breeds crime and encourages people to think in criminal ways. If they must break the law to trade drugs, why not break it in other ways? In the USA 25% of prisoners are there for drug crimes! Talk about a breeding ground for future crime becuase most of them wil be repeat offenders in the future for a variety of crimes. Prison is a great place to learn how to commmit crimes so drugs need to be legal to remove folks from this training groud. Anything anyone does with thier very own body needs to be legal.

I think they should legalize drugs for sure. I mean a lot of people can't afford them so they have to use insane tatics.I don't know if this will stop all murders from them (drugs). I mean there is drug deals that go bad sometimes. I do not use drugs at all. I do belive that it would be nice to see people alive instead of dead

I have to agree. IF for no other reason than if drugs were legal, then there would be less laws to break. It would put an end to illegal transport, sellining, manufacture, distribution, possession and drop the crime rates in just about every country by a significant percentage.
But then I have said for years that the best way to lower the crime rate would be to get rid of more laws, rahter than make more. Less laws, less opportunity for people to break them, thus less crime. IT is so simple....

Yes, if they were made legal without limitation like cigarettes and alcohol. It would cut out the drug dealers. Alcohol was illegal at one time and we had bootleggers. Can you imagine someone today saying "pssttt...hey buddy, wanna buy a beer?" Sounds silly doesn't it? I believe if drugs were made available like alcohol and cigarettes are available that we wouldn't have drug dealers. Thus cutting out other drug related crimes such as murders over drug bills, street gang thefts, etc. People are going to do drugs if they want to. Just like people are going to drink if they want to. Making it legal for them isn't going to change that fact. As for it being available to our kids. It's already available! It's in our neighborhoods, schools, parks, ect! Making it legal will help put a stop to that.

You need to read history better. They were legal not to many years ago. They were made illegal because of the crime they caused as well as the deaths. If the drugs were for sell at walmart on row 9 you would still need to buy them and druggies do not have a job. So they would still steal and kill to get their fix.

The downturn in "crime" would be staggering. Our courts are clogged with victimless crimes, overwhelmingly drug crimes, that should never be there in the first place. Everyone knows this, and the question is why? Follow the money is the best advice. Check out all those who oppose legalization, and you will see who profits most from this silliness.

Other than meth, all the controlled substances were once completely legal, and there were no problems with crime. Pne used to be able to buy bottles of Heroin over-the-counter..
The war on drugs creates far, far more damage than the drugs.

Maybe...but I think people would be just as likely to loot, pillage, sell their bodies and steal to buy drugs at a "drug store" or they might just rob the store. Gangs would find some other line of crime to stay in business....maybe stronger "black market" drugs....and one thing's for sure.....crime might not drop but our taxes would definitely go up (just look at how they tax alcohol and cigarettes already).
