There are a few different things that it could be, so it is best to take it to the doctor to get a diagnosis.

What to expect when there? Obviously an examination, and most likely they will take a swab as well. This is not very intrusive, most likely they will just swipe you with a q tip and send it off to the lab to see if any yeast or bacteria can be cultured off it.

One of the things that it could be, that may not have occurred to you, is a yeast infection. The male equivalent of a vaginal yeast infection.

it is not technically classified as an STD, as it can be acquired through other ways than sexual transmission. But I have known men who have only ever had a yeast infectionwhen their partner also had a yeast infection. So it may be wise to check your partner as well.

If it is a yeast infection it can be easily treated by an antifungal cream, or if you don't mind a bit of pain, I have known men to use such home remedies as tea tree oil wash - that does sting however.

For a temporary solution, pull your foreskin fully back as far as it will go to expose the groove below the head completely, then wash the whole area carefully and very thoroughly with warm water and mild baby soap, rinsing thoroughly afterwards. However, for a permanently maintenance free penis and better comfort, hygiene, health, appearance and FAR better sex for both you and your female partner, have yourself circumcised without delay

Pull back the foreskin, and CLEAN! from the inside out, but not too much, don't want it to peel. If its still there, call the doctor! Oh and one more thing... be lucky you have foreskin :(
